The Issues I had can't ruin this guitar

By Kody Summers-Wiley

from Osceola, In

This is the first seven string I have bought and so far I love it. The entire guitar is just sleek and smooth, it's a gorgeous guitar and the neck is so thin that it's impossible to hate. One of my friends has a custom Carvin eight string and the neck feels nearly identical to this Ibanez for more then half the price. The action/tension that it came with shipped out of the factory was great. But there are some issues with it. First it was on back order for a month which is fine with me(especially since I was able to get it for 480 bucks for my wait), but I feel like because of the rush they made a few mistakes on it. The back of the neck has a few rough spots from what I'm guessing is the maker rushing to get it out since it was on back order for so long. They aren't major but they are noticeable while I'm holding it. Hopefully the local GC tech will fix it for me. Also the pickups do not have any kind of guard around them which shouldn't be an issue, but when I opened it up there were little chips of wood inside near the pickups. Again I feel like it's from them rushing. On the topic of the pickups, they're definitely not the best like most people have pointed out on other reviews. They're serviceable but lack any real punch for metal. They'll work for now but I do plan on replacing them. This guitar is great and I love it. All I own is Ibanez guitars and I'll continue to buy from them. The wait for it is understandable and I'm not going to be "that customer" especially since I got it just 3 days after it was finally instock. As long as I can get the neck issue fixed I'll be 100% in love with this guitar.

This guitar will knock you out, its high precision all the way. Though the label reads made in Indonesia, I can't imagine that one made in Japan or anywhere else where great luthiers practice their art for that matter, could be very much better...it is perfection. So I recommend that if your considering this model don't delay buy it now before you loose the opportunity.

So this guitar is incredible. I did not order it through MF, so I ran into some problems actually getting it. My local music store placed an order, and long story short, Ibanez kind of just blew off my order. The store called, and I emailed a lot, and low and behold, it arrived two months later. I was excited, but the buzz was ridiculous. I took it to my store, they adjusted the action and string gauge and it was better but not fixed. So they called their luthier/guitar tech who fixed it (Ibanez never crowned the frets). Now it plays like a dream, and I'm swapping out the bridge pickup for a DiMarzio Crunch Lab. The stock is just kind of flat.

I would give four stars for Ibanez's terrible service and forgetting to craft part of the guitar, but the guitar in working shape is just so absolutely incredible.

    TEST IT FIRST

    By RENE RAMIREZ VELASCO

    from Portland, OR.

Ok, so this was the first guitar I bought online and I had a really bad experience with it at first. the nightmare began when I ordered a gator case for it and said it would fit extended scale guitars as well, guess what? It didn't, so I would strongly recommend you to look for an XL case if you're buying it online. Next, the killer look and flawless satin finish are amazing BUT the factory setup and fretboard treatment were just, HORRIBLE (I have an IBZ S series too and when I opened the box it wasn't that way at all), so we're talking about unpolished and rusty frets, bad intonation and unplayable string action, they told me that they could have everything fixed for 50 bucks and I refused so I did at home. After polishing the frets with sandpaper, adjusting the bridge and the neck the storm was gone, now I'm just saving some money to get a set of DiMarzio pickups on it because the stock ones are kinda muddy and noisy. Don't get me wrong this is a GREAT 7 string guitar for being an extended scale and Ibanez as well at that price, but if you are as unlucky as me you you'll have to spend some extra time and money to get it right.

This guitar soared past the expectations I had. I have played a few Ibanez guitars before but have never owned prior to purchasing this one. I've owned a 7-string before but not one like this! Feels and plays great, neck is really fast, came ready to play out of the box (I did some minor adjustments because I changed strings, currently using Dunlop "Heavy Cores" .10-.60) and it sounded amazing. The only thing that I will probably ever modify this guitar with in any way would be the pickups, they sound pretty muddy but Im also not running it through the greatest amp so soon I will experiment with other amps and edit this review if I feel the need to. But all in all its a great feeling/playing guitar, everything seems to be made from quality components, had it for about a month and I cant think of anything too bad to say. I would definately reccomend this guitar for anyone who likes lower tunings and is looking to dabble in the world of 7-strings.

This guitar was playable right out of the box. I tuned it right up , plugged it in a shredded for hours!! Some people have said the pickups in this model are bad etc..but actually they are really good. I play through a Peavey 6505 head so maybe that helps having a good tube head!!?! Very good quality and for the price , you just can't beat it. Very pleased with this guitar!! \m/\m/

    My Opinion of the RGD7421

    By JoE DaMaGE

    from Phila/PA

I am using this guitar to jam on Fear Factory tunes. I do recommend this guitar, but keep in mind that the stock pickups dont sound too great. Too muddy and undefined, and also I found the factory strings to not be playable. Chords and fast picking sounded sloppy. With a strings gauge change and pickup swap, this guitar can sound great.
For the price pretty good specs. You can read em in the product description. A few things to note. 26.5 scale. Comes factory tuned one step down ADGCFAD with Daddario strings 10-59's. The neck is awesomely thin.
The quality seems decent. The stock pickups suck. I also feel that out of the box the string tension is too floppy for fast playing and recommend thicker strings. I had great success with a 11-49 set and a 62 gauge for the low A. I switched out the pickups for Duncan Blackouts and they sound great in this guitar. Major difference!!
This guitar is a good value, in my opinion.
