The RGA archtop guitar not only has hot curves but playability. For live performance, its lightweight body gives players more freedom to prowl around stage. The arched top also lets players knock down heavy riffs and power chords without hitting the guitar body. All told, curved beauty and great performance combine gracefully and powerfully in the RGA. And now, it's available with a beautiful quilted maple top.

Excellent Guitar, Average Pickups

By Kirk Gingerich

from Greensboro, North Carolina

Comments about Ibanez RGA8QM 8-String Electric Guitar:

After considering my options for what would be my first 8-string guitar, I decided to go with the RGA8QM based on Ibanez's reputation as the leader in 8-string guitars. I'm very glad that I did, as this guitar has quickly become one of my personal favorites to play. The playability of this guitar completely belies that fact that the fretboard is nearly as wide as that of a 6-string bass, and despite the considerable size, it is unlikely to get in your way. The finish and hardware were very well done, although I can't say they were perfect. The quality level is about what you would expect from a guitar in this price range. The 27" scale neck is an excellent addition, since the comparable ESP/LTD and Schecter 8-strings are shorter and are therefore more likely to give you problems with string tension. The only major issue with the RGA8QM is the pickup system. Average is actually a fairly kind word to describe these pickups, as they are very muddy (with or without the 3-volt EQ boost) and in my personal experience are almost useless without a good 10-band EQ to eliminate some of the muddiness. I would strongly recommend that any buyer of this guitar also purchase replacement pickups as quickly as possible. It should also be mentioned that replacement strings are hard to find, it doesn't come with a case, and it won't fit on a wall hanger.

Very Nice Finish and Neck

By Tyler Carmine

from VA

Comments about Ibanez RGA8QM 8-String Electric Guitar:

I have wanted to play an 8 string for so long but I was afraid to spend a couple thousand on a custom so I looked into many different ones for example the Schecter 8's ESP etc. I really didn't want another black guitar (two ibby 7's both black unfortunately) so that's why i wasn't looking towards my usual choice of ibanez then this year they started producing this guitar. I went and bought it as soon as possible. The finish is very nice on the guitar, on the back its a dark brownish which you can actually see wood grain which i thought was an added bonus. The only thing that is not that great about this guitar are the pickups as most of you have probably seen, I recommend either the new Dimarzio 8's they started making or BKP coldsweats for a pickup change both sound great. The best part about this guitar is the finish and the neck is amazing also you definitely want the 27" scale not the 26 1/2" or shorter like the other companies have. I tune my 8 EBEADGBE and the string tension is perfect my top 2 strings are a 74 gauge and a 54 gauge. I recently played a schecter 8 and an esp 8 not long after I got my Ibby and their necks don't even compare they feel really thick and short and the F# just doesn't sound right on them.
