Opening day, Winter NAMM 2013, The 7 and 8-string guitar forums explode with discussion about the new prototype at the Ibanez booth: The company that prides itself as "The First in Seven, and the Leader In Eight" unveils a mind-blowing 9-STRING GUITAR. Fast forward one year, and sure enough, those dream weavers at Ibanez have done it: Introducing the world's first production 9-string guitar. Not only did Ibanez go big with the concept, the Prestige RG90BKP goes just as big with the execution. As the crown jewel of Ibanez, the Prestige line represents the passion and pride of Japanese luthiery.
Produced exclusively in Japan, Prestige guitars have earned worldwide acclaim and respect throughout the industry for their craftsmanship, quality, and innovation. Combine this with the classic Ibanez RG design, and you have an instrument that, in spite of its string count, represents a cornerstone of the Ibanez legacy.
The RG90BKP 9-string features a select Basswood body and super-rigid Ultra-9 neck-constructed of five, glued, solid pieces of Maple/ Wenge-to accommodate 28" scale string tension, and maintain superior tone and sustain. Electronics are driven by a pair of British handwound Bare Knuckle Canine pickups for a responsive, low-end articulation and remarkable clarity.
The original low-profile Gibraltar Standard II-9 bridge is designed for precise intonation adjustment, playing comfort, and great sustain, combined with super smooth Gotoh MG-T locking tuners for superior tuning stability. Hard shell case included. Factory tuning (from 1st to 9th) is E/B/G/D/A/E/B/F#/C#.
