Overview

This new RG Premium electric guitar, the RG870Z, stands astride quality and affordability with a foot (bout?) planted firmly in each camp by providing a combination of moderate price, superior quality, pro features, and excellent feel and finish. The 2-piece body has an American basswood center while the Wizard Premium neck is given the Premium fret edge treatment for a fast, smooth feel. An HSH pickup array of CAP VM1 neck humbucker, CAP VM1S middle single-coil, and CAP VM2 bridge humbucker present you with a veritable plethora of tone choices. The Edge Zero II bridge with the ZPS3Fe spring system returns you to "zero" — center point — after each use of the tremolo arm that allows radical tremolo effects with flawless tuning accuracy.

Basswood body
Basswood is a comparatively lightweight wood, which makes it very comfortable for extended playing. With a good balance of highs and lows, basswood is right in between alder and mahogany in sound character.

Great guitar for beginners. The tone is good, and it sounds good playing any type of music. Great!

One big negative on this guitar

By Logan Flanery

from Illinois

Great guitar, but I found one very bad thing about this guitar. I had this guitar for around 5 months before my first string broke when I was playing a solo. I started to replace the string and when I was winding the string up, it slipped out of the bridge. So far, I've had 3 of 7 strings replaced not slip out. Other than the string problems, I don't have many other complaints about it. As a metal player, I can say that this guitar has fantastic sound quality. Natural/pinch harmonics sound amazing, sweeping is made easier with the thin neck, power chords sound good, and the fret height is perfect. I normally like to play until my fingers are close to bleeding and it holds in tune very well. I would recommend this guitar to others, but I would suggest one asks another owner of the guitar how his/her experience with the strings has been before buying.
