My first 8 String

Comments about Ibanez RG8004 8-string Electric Guitar:

I've been a little on the fence about getting an 8 string guitar. At first I thought the idea of an 8 string was ridiculous. I have been playing guitar on and off for about 20 years and I've always had 6 string guitars and then Korn came out and brought 7 strings into mainstream I was a little iffy about them. They just didn't seem to impress me. Then a few years ago I heard about Animals as Leaders and I watched some videos with Tosin Abas... (whatever his name is) playing them and I liked what I heard. Then, I found out about other bands that I've listened to that also use 7 and 8 string guitars (Fear Factory, Deftones). I was thinking one day I am gonna try one. Then, a few weeks ago I finally decided to try one at the GC in Brooklyn, NY. I just loved the feeling of it. Its not about just hitting the extra open F# and doing bar chords (sure you can do that if that's what you are into). I liked the idea of having lower octaves. There are so many more ways of creating chords using the extra strings I think the 8 string brings the guitar closer to what a piano is, anyways, enough about that rant. As I mentioned before, I have only played 6 string guitars before. My first guitar being a Fender Strat and then a few cheapo acoustic guitars and most recently I got an Epiphone Les Paul standard. This is my first Ibanez guitar ever. I've been playing this guitar for about a week now and so far I love it. I really like Ibanez. They seem to have good craftsmanship. This particular guitar is made in Indonesia. I am not much of a technical guy in regards to the specs but for the price you are paying for this guitar I believe the pick-ups, bridge, and tuners are fine for this price (upgrading is always an option). I honestly could not tell the difference between this guitar and the RG8. They felt the same to me. Now, if you look at the specs they are almost the same with the exceptions that this one has the basswood body and the RG8 has the Mahogany body, the pick-ups are different as well (although I don?t know which is better), and the dot inlay is different. I was a little undecided because of the lack of reviews for this guitar. I know it might sound shallow but I got this guitar over the RG8 because of the looks. I love the starlight blue sunburst look over the solid color of the RG8 and the dot inlay pattern. This guitar looks so much better in person than it does on the picture. The setup of the guitar is ok for now. I plan to eventually take it to a pro to make it perfect. The neck of the guitar has a nice feel to it. It's a fat neck of course but its easy to wrap your hand around it even when playing the lower strings B and F#. I was expecting to feel some pain or discomfort but so far so good. The only problem I have with this guitar so far is some buzzing on the F# string. That?s the reason why I am not giving it 5 stars. If its something fixable this totally deserves 5 stars. As I mentioned before I have had this guitar for about a week. Therefore, I can?t comment on the long term quality and reliability of it but so far so good. This guitar is slightly longer than a regular guitar but it?s not significantly heavier. I will update this review later if any significant changes happen.

Comments about Ibanez RG8004 8-string Electric Guitar:

I give the Ibanez Rg8004 thumbs up, Was kinda hesitant at 1st but fell in love with. If you like 7 strings you'll love this guitar very easy to move up and down the neck. The down side is string noise on the 7th and 8th string!!! But i am putting heavier string on this weekend, the pickups could be better that's it on the down side.
