Overview

The RG is the most recognizable and distinctive guitar in the Ibanez line. Three decades of metal have forged this high-performance machine, honing it for both speed and strength. This RG450DX model has a basswood body and a Wizard III neck shape that offers maximum comfort and speed. Its fingerboard is rosewood with 24 jumbo frets for bigger note bends and it also comes with triple Ibanez INF pickups that are wired to a 5-way switch for a variety of coil combinations and sounds. An Edge-Zero tremolo bridge and Cosmo black hardware complete the list of hard-rockin' appointments.

Wizard III maple neck
Ibanez's thin, flat, and fast, yet strong and sturdy, Wizard neck offers unlimited playability for demanding players, and features a two-octave 24-fret fretboard for wide tonal range.

Quantum pickups
The Quantum pickups provide accelerated bass response for exceptionally fast tracking of high-speed staccato riffing with crushing mid range and precise high-end articulation.

Edge-Zero II Tremolo
Lower profile designed tremolo for playing comfort, and stud lock function for stable tuning.

Case sold separately.

I should clarify that this guitar is mot my very first guitar. It is my first top brand guitar. That said, i actually bought it used and in great condition that even the plastic on the pick guard was still on. The shape is familiar, only sharper design points. All frets are easily accessible with nothing obstructing from the highest areas. The neck is thin enough to be comfortably held, and slide up and down. The electronics are a change from what i am use to. I believe i am sold on HSH setups. I am also more used to 2 tone knobs but i am very much happy with just the one. The sustain is amazing. The pickups are standard ibanez factory made, so comparing them to the higher quality ones is not fair to me. That said, for the price i believe the tone range is rather nice from these pickups. This is actually surprising, although not really! The trem system is another first for me. Never had a floating bridge, however the tricks i can do now with the trem has opened my playing to new possibilities.

The one thing i am on the fence on is the frets. This is only personal preference as i believe they are rather nice for those who like jumbo frets. I like smaller frets. The upside is that vibrato is far easier with big frets and you can get your fingers in. As i said, its a preference and so i can't mark it down. It is very much worth it!

There is plenty to like about this guitar, and I got it for the features I was looking for: locking tremelo, 24 frets, fast neck, 5 way pickup selector, and nice looks. My first impressions of the guitar was slight disappointment with how sloppy Ibanez was. The tops and bottoms of the frets needed to be beveled as they were pretty sharp, there was a noticeable nick on the fretboard, and there was a black smudge on the back of the neck. None of those was a huge deal.

The main two issues I have with the guitar are that the middle pickup, the single coil, has such low output that the middle three positions are much quieter than the neck or bridge pickups alone. I do like the tone of the single coil in conjunction with the humbuckers, but those positions are somewhat useless considering how quiet they are, and I have ordered a humbucker to replace it. The single coil alone (middle position) has too much noise AND is too quiet. Not a big deal to replace a pickup, but why they are selling it this way, I'm not sure. The second issue is the volume control. Instead of a gradual swell, there is a sharp dropoff in volume at one point in the rotation of the dial, making it pretty much useless other than having it full on or all the way off. I am not sure if that is fixable, but if it is, I'll need to have that done as well.

All that said, if the guitar had not arrived in such sloppy condition and the two problems were resolved, I'd give this guitar 5 stars.

This replaced a worn out vintage strat. I love the neck better than a strat, and is great to jam with or practice. Vibrato/Tremlo is a far improvement over the strat unit.

Comments about Ibanez RG450DX Electric Guitar:

Again, i've been playing on Ibanez guitars for 32 years, also played most of the guitars out there, yet none compares to the Ibanez in sound, looks, feel, and overall quality of the guitar. I prefer their RG seires, but what ever floats your boat. If you are a rocker/metalist like me, RG is the way to go. If not, they will still have the guitar for you. P.S. I love the sound of a Strat or a Les Paul, but they just don't seem to work for me. I admit that Strats are hard for me to play. Thats one reason I like Ibanez, The WizardIII neck, aaaaaaahhhh!!! Total comfort!

Comments about Ibanez RG450DX Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for 3 months now and have really bonded with it. It played well out of the box but simple tweaks made it play and sound even better. Mild adjustments of the truss rod, bridge and pickup height were very easy. Stays in tune exceptionally well and the newer Quantum pickups are very good for stock. I've tried a couple of different string sets and recommend staying with a lower tension setup, like the 9-42 set that comes stock. With higher gauge, high tension sets, you need the fourth tremolo spring making the "whammy" much stiffer.

Workmanship, fit and finish on mine We're excellent. One or two fret edges were only a little rough. A gentile pass with a file fixed that.

If you are in this price range, this is your guitar.

Comments about Ibanez RG450DX Electric Guitar:

Knocked off a star from the 4 it should have gotten because I had to return it. There was a problem with the magnetic poles in the pick ups. One pole stuck out so far that when I lowered the action it would dampen the string. I chose a different guitar upon return, but this was nothing to do with Musician's Friend simply a factory defect. I would like to say they could probably open and inspect guitars they sell, maybe even set them up in a basic kind of way.

Comments about Ibanez RG450DX Electric Guitar:

First let me say that I did NOT buy this from Musicians Friend.
My 2016 RG450DXB did arrive new in the box. Upon opening it, I noticed that 4 of the the pick guard screws were screwed in at an angle and I mean a hard 45 degree angle. They were no where near being flush with the pick guard. The joy of owning a new guitar turned to anger and frustration. There is no way to fix this w/o filling and re-drilling holes. Then I noticed the cavity under the trem. There were several rough spots in the corners that were not smoothed out and just painted over. It looks horrible. I am extremely disappointed in Ibanez. There is no way this should get past quality control. I have tried to contact Ibanez directly via email, facebook and twitter. After 2 weeks I have heard nothing back from them. It has really turned me off to Ibanez. Its not worth returning it due to shipping and restocking fees. For what its worth it does play and sound great but the joy of owning it is lost.

This guitar plays great. It has a very fast neck, great action, and very comfortable. It has a great sound for stock pick-ups. It literally came ready to play straight out of the box. A little fine tuning and I was rolling. The tremolo is wonderful. It keeps the tuning perfect. I am looking forward to playing this guitar for years to come. Bought at the Little Rock, AR store.
