Amazing bass for the price!

By Deborah

from Uxbridge, MA

I got this bass about 3 weeks ago and I was very surprised with it in several ways. First of all is the look of it, it looks even better than it does on the site, the head of it is much larger than I was expecting, to me it's a good thing since to me the picture of it made the body look a lot larger than the neck and head and I do like basses with a larger head to make a more balanced look. I think that it's important to note that the picture shows a bass that has a pattern almost, and my bass doesn't have that black line pattern, it's not a down side for me but for others it might be; also either because it's a bass that isn't too pricey, or because it's natural finish I noticed there are some slight imperfections especially on the edges, again purely cosmetic, and not much of a down side for me, but if you're a perfectionist who wants a bass without flaws this is not for you. Second is the sound, I was surprised at how well it actually kept up with my friend's acoustic guitar, the sound it's self is really nice, and it works great for a wide range of sounds, my band plays oldie rock music and folk which works perfectly for the sound. Slap sounds nice on it as well, even Primus works on this bass! Prior to getting this bass I tried several other acoustic basses and they all had an overwhelming amount of tin sound especially while playing slap, but this has a great sound no matter what playing style, and it sounds great plugged in, or not. The third thing is the feel of it, it's great and feels really natural. My other bass is an Ibanez sound gear which is an electric and slap on it always felt a tad artificial to me, not saying it's a bad instrument it's actually really nice, but just a bit artificial for me, the PCBE12 fells a lot more right to me, and a lot easier to play. Just a couple last thought things are that the tuner doesn't work unless you are actually plugged into an amp, I had no idea this was a thing when I bought this bass, not too bad if you are always near an amp, or if you can tune by ear, but for a more inexperienced player who doesn't have an amp handy this can be a serious flaw, and it's one of the reasons I gave it a 4 instead of a 5, I thought it was really annoying that they didn't say that somewhere, I do suppose you could say that I should have done more in depth research on the components, but I think that something like that should have made it some where in the description. Also the weight is a bit strange to me, it's very light, and the neck fells considerably heavier than the body, although this is probably just because of the large head, and the truss rod in the neck. The second peg that holds the strap is located on the side of the neck that is facing away from you while you hold it, this means that the strap goes around the neck which makes the instrument when you aren't holding it slump down so that the neck points towards the ground, a bit strange, but because the instrument isn't heavy it's really easy to keep it from slumping when you play. Over all this is an amazing instrument, and I would recommend it to any one who want's to not be constricted by amp cords, and anyone who has a limited budget, but wants a great acoustic bass.
