The Ibanez MSC550 acoustic-electric guitar brings the unplugged and plugged-in worlds together in new and exciting ways. From the Montage Series, it merges two acoustic sounds, two electric sounds, mix capability, onboard reverb, chorus, distortion, phase canceling, plus a dual notch filter and tuner. These groundbreaking, innovative electronics are possible with the combination of the B-Band® UST acoustic pickup, Ibanez AP9 electric pickup, and the Ibanez HBP multi-function preamp with Onboard Tuner. Controls are conveniently mounted on the face of the upper bout. The preamp operates on a standard 9-volt battery and has balanced 1/4" outputs.

The Ibanez MSC550 guitar also features a flamed maple body with a transparent red gloss finish. Montage series acoustic guitars have a sleek, comfortable cutaway semi-jumbo body style and the exclusive Ibanez adjustable mahogany F.A.S.T. Extremely Versatile

By Curt

from Lakewood, CA

This Guitar does it all! With both an electric and acoustic pickup, on board effects and mixing, the amount of sounds are infinite. As a unamplified acoustic, it is loud enough, although doesent project as loud an acoustic with a traditional sound hole. With built in reverb, chorus and distortion, you can go from clean acoustic, to blues to distortion with a simple flick of a switch. Works great through a sound board or PA. I suppose it doesn't project as well as a pure acoustic, and doesn't do ultimate metal, but for the remaining 90% of everything in else in between, this single guitar does it all. A winner for versatility.

Outstanding flexibility/sound

By Mike Westendorf - www.mikewestendorf

from Milwaukee, WI

This guitar is what I've been looking for. I'm not a big fan of carrying pedals all over creation and am more of a folk/acoustic player first, rock/rhythm player second. I play a lot of different crowds and show types so this guitar is PERFECT for adding a bit more edge or completely transforming the sound with the flick of a switch. Love the customizable way to approach sound. Plays/looks great, definitely would recommend this. Things I'd like to see improved, I do have a pretty loud hum in the "drive/clean" settings that I'll need to have looked into. Don't like where they mounted the post for the strap on the top end of the guitar... makes the guitar top heavy so I'll need to move that. In order to activate the"tuner' you seem to have to have the 1/4 inch plug in (I haven't read the booklet yet though). And it would be nice to be able to control the chorus a bit better to give it a more subtle effect. For the money, it's a great guitar. I don't have to bring different amps/pedals/guitars, it's all right here, looks great, feels great and for all intents and purposes, sounds great. If you play a lot of different styles of music, this is a great guitar.

A Beautiful Montage

By Jordan Ross

from High Point, North Carolina

I own a Ibanez Montage MSC550 in the Transparent Red finish. The thing that first caught my eye was the beautiful finish of the guitar. It is absolutely gorgeous in combination with the gold hardware. Then I sat down and started playing it...although I only truly fell in love with it once I plugged it into an acoustic amp. The sounds that are obtained with this guitar are truly divine and cannot be described with words. You can go from soothing acoustic melodies with a touch of onboard chorus and reverb to brighter clean tones that are reminiscent of older Creed songs. You can even dial in a suitable overdriven tone, although I would never use this in a live situation because it is probably the only setting of the guitar that doesn't sounds very good...however that isn't what you would usually use when you are playing an acoustic guitar-its just there for fun. The EQ is very effective and allows you to dial in beautiful sounds whether you are going straight to the PA or playing through an amp. Also, the built in tuner has never failed me and always keeps me in perfect tune. Obviously the Montage isn't as loud as most acoustics because of its slim profile and the location of the sound hole, but it is still very audible. The neck is wonderful...a friend of mine who plays strictly metal and is used to the neck profiles of Jacksons and Ibanez' played my guitar once a little after a performance and said, "Wow. This is the most comfortable neck I have ever played on, and its an acoustic!" Overall this guitar is a great guitar. I would definitely recomend it to anyone looking for a solid acoustic that produces a variety of musically brilliant sounds all while being very comfortable to play, and easy to operate. This guitar has lasted me through over a year of gigs in large venues, smaller churches, and even a recording session at a studio in Nashville. This is a great guitar...don't hesitate-buy it!
