Anyone looking to jump into the acoustic music realm will love playing this A-style 8-string mandolin, thanks to an incredible pricetag, and the legacy of the Ibanez name in bluegrass music. Built on the pear-shaped A-style platform, Ibanez' M511S A-style acoustic mandolin features a solid spruce top, for warm, balanced tone right out of the box. The Ibanez mandolin's maple wood body offers clean attack and even highs. The lows taper off, allowing the pure clean mandolin tones to shine through in rich, high-end volume. The mahogany neck, along with the rosewood bridge and fretboard aid in the punchy attack and lasting sustain”ideal for rhythmic chopping and lead soloing. Gold/Pearloid tuners offer precision tuning, while the gold hardware and high gloss finish bring out the instrument's lustrous beauty.

I've played guitar for 40+ years, and recently decided to take up the mandolin. I purchased this one, looking for a lower price range instrument, not knowing if I'd like playing mandolin. I've had it for about 3 weeks, been playing almost every night, and having a blast, love the sound. It holds tuning very well ... ***once I replaced the strings ***. The suggested accessories include a new set of strings -- GET THEM. I had some real tuning problems with the strings that came on it. Once I restrung it and got the bridge positioned correctly (it's got a floating bridge -- if you take off all the strings, the bridge falls off - that's by design), it's been great. I'd definitely recommend for someone just starting to explore the instrument.
