I wanted to learn mandolin and at this price point I was excited to jump in without breaking the bank, I was a little weary about it being too cheap but i got it anyways. I had it set up by a luither who put the bridge in the correct place and put some of the D'addario j75 strings on it. The Mando sounds really nice, the strings are nice and mellow but still have a bit of bite without being too shrill. It is really light, it is holding its tuning well and looks amazing. Its a no brainer if your intrested in this Mando just to get it, it has a cheap price tag and Im really impressed by Ibanez's quality entry level instruments.

A bit disappointed

Pic guard was scratched. The packing/shipping was excellent so I am assuming that it was scratched at factory and sent anyway.

Comments about Ibanez M510 A-Style Mandolin:

Old guitar player and I was looking for something new, I picked this up online. After it arrived I took it out of the box, did a quick tuning job, went to you tube and in 20 minutes I was playing Dance Tonight by McCartney and Copperhead Road by Steve Earl. Easy chords, nice sound, plenty loud by itself for practice and comes thru the P A great as well. I've since been learning different techniques and styles very quickly, it was a little difficult getting used to the tiny frets and close proximity of the strings but certainly easy to adjust to with time and practice. Suddenly learning all kinds of songs that this sound fits into and its a whole lot of fun!

This mandolin has a great sound. Looked at a lot before choosing this one. But if you are buying a new instrument you would like new strings too. Buy an extra pair

Comments about Ibanez M510 A-Style Mandolin:

First off, this mandolin is a great buy; however, either Guitar Center or the manufacturer needs to check the strings and the intonation for problems before selling them. For example, the strings that came with my mandolin looked like they were thirty years old and one of the high "E" strings broke after only three hours of playing it. Also, the bridge was not set up properly, so the 11th fret was dead on every string. After getting new strings and fixing the bridge, the mandolin sounds wonderful! However, do not expect greatness when you first purchase one for yourself.

Comments about Ibanez M510 A-Style Mandolin:

The bridge does not sit tight against top. Without proper adjustment, I'd be worried that it will crack the top over time. Sounds great as-is but tone is also improved by adjusting the bridge. Minor cosmetic flaws due to the cost, but nothing that affect the play-ability.
