I got the pack on Christhmas 2005. I'm going to stress that this a STARTER PACK and I am comparing to other packs. I have since bought a Oscar Schmidt by Washburn Delta King bass. Features: The bass is decent. The input jack comes loose and spins around, which breaks all the wires. I got a nice jack put in it. The pickups are nice, I am going to put EMG passives in it. Frets are nice, not jagged. Bridge is good, it has nice sustain and doesn't hack up your strings (which you should change as soon as you can). The neck was set perfect right out of the box. Amp: OK. Not a whole lot of tone, but it is alot better than the amps that come with the Squire and Epiphone packs. Accessories: Tuner is nice. I still use it though I have the Boss TU-2. Strap stinks, get a new one with locks as soon as you can. Headphones are relly great. Video is really helpful. Gerald Veasley (who is awesome) shows how to play and take care of your bass. I believe that's it. The bass is well built and is worth putting some money into, it will still be cheaper than buying another one. Buy it, you won't be dissapointed.

This is a good starter pack and I'd recommend it for TRUE beginners - If you've played any other guitar for any reasonable length of time (say a year consistently) then take your money and put together your own Bass and Amp. I picked the Ibenez over the comparable Fender pack because I borrowed the Fender from a buddy of mine who's son had given up on the bass, and the entry level Fender just didn't have a good sound to it - but it also had pickup problems and was only a year old. The Ibenez (IMO) is the better package for guitar quality, but I'm biased (I prefer my Ibenez 6 string to my Fender too, but the Ibenez is what replaced my entry level Fender). If I keep at it I will be upgrading in a year or so at most. The Bass, Tuner, and Amp are worth it for a beginner, but you'll replace the strap and cable right away - walk out of the store with them if you buy this package. Detailed Review The Bass: The bass is light, has good sound and intonation and relaxing to play - I don't have to fight it for sound or performance. It holds tune and is enjoyable to play. I wish I had a bit more tone control, and active pickups, but hey - its entry level. The entry level quality shows in frets and fingerboard grain and finish, but it's a good play overall. It is my new toy and I've been playing it about an hour a day 5 days a week for 2 weeks now. No complaints, it plays well, and certainly has gotten me used to the bass. I have not had to replace the strings (as some others noted) and I don't anticipate needing to anytime soon. The Strap You will replace the strap - even in the realm of cheap straps this is a CHEAP strap - if you buy this package spend 4 bucks and get a cheap nylon strap or buy a real strap - I just grabbed an old one I had around. The Tuner It works when you need it, also support 6 string - nothing fancy here - just a hell of a lot cheaper than they used to be. The Amp It's a practice amp - nothing fancy (Volume and Bass, Mid, and Treb nobs, a Aux in line, and 3.5mm headphone jack - not the 6.3/(1/4inch) stereo jack). Correct - it won't power you through your garage band, there are no fancy features or connections - it is a basic starter amp, it's not supposed to. As with all entry level amps and , even some mid range, the jack was plastic, not metal. If you need or want more this is not the bass package for you - its fine for me learning the bass, it's plenty loud and my wife makes me use my headphones with the bass (not so with the Guitar). The Cable - I have to say I took one look at the cable and thew it out - but I had several real cables on hand. It had a hard, cheap, plastic quality and was only 6ft long and I didn't want to deal with it. I'm sure it was at least UL listed.

awesome amp, but the bass is cheap

By Robert Boyle

from Crested Butte CO

Had this package for 2 years, and have learned how to play bass on it. the amp is great and still working 100% but as for the bass.... its all well and good if you want to learn the basics, but than your talent will quickly surpass the quality of the bass. the bridge came messed up, and the intonation of the E string is WAY OF! ( if you use a tuner the low E is in tune but the next octave on the same E sting will be incredibly sharp. also the Action is REALLY REALLY HIGH. this bugs me the most. its nearly impossible to do quick finger work on the neck because you have to press so darn hard down on the sting just to get the string to produce a decent sound. This bass helped me learn how to play the bass, but now i have to say goodbye and let it teach another. and trust me, you will have to do the same soon enough if you get the bass.

Excellent Start kit

By Red

from El Paso Texas

I had previously a Fender precision and it was a good bass but I pass that to a nephew and I was left without a bass for a while. I wanted a different one because the design of the Fender is very conservative even though the bass was excellent. Anyway, I was going for a Yamaha but I saw first the Ibanez IJSB90 Electric Bass Jumpstart Pack, I had even purchased the Pack but then I saw this one and I saw a lot of advantages starting that the bass has an extra pic and that the amplifier has an input for the CD/AUX which is great for playing along. Also I saw that it included some headphones but I was not betting much on them, but incredible so, they are great. The only thing that I am not trill about is the small bag for the accessorizes and the cable, both of the serve the purpose but they are not really good quality. After I got it, I went to the local Guitar Center to get it adjusted and it made a world of difference, now it is perfect.

very nice bass

By paul

from saginaw michigan

it is a perfect bass for beginners, since i just switched to bass after playing guitar for 3 years. i got it for Christmas back in 2008 and it has held up very nice. have dropped it a few times (because of the cheap strap that comes with it) and it still works fine. my friend josh and i recorded a keyboard and bass version of Don't Stop Believing, and it performed very well. My advice, GET IT!!! just buy a new strap, and after a while you will want to get a new amp. (you will find out that this amp is not powerful enough and does not have distortion)

Great Deal, Accessories Lack Quality

By Justin

from Lancaster, PA

The bass: This is the first bass I purchased, and the package is a really good deal. I don't believe the bass is sold stand alone without the package, but its very similar to the GSR200 with a few differences; this body is basswood instead of agathis, this model has standard p and j pickups instead of the powersound pickups, and this model does not have the eq boost control. This bass is very playable and much lighter than something like a Fender. The strings that came on it didn't last too long (the associate in the store liked to pull the bass out of the pack and play it frequently so the D-string broke in the first 5 months) Quality of products contained: I've owned this pack for almost 2 years now, and I care for it rather well. I love my Ibanez bass, and I am currently saving up for an SR706. I have no complaints about the amp, for being 15watts its a nice little combo cube (solid state of coarse). You will need to replace the strap the tabs that connect to the bass are heavily deteriorating. The cable that comes in the pack is a bit poorly made and delivers some unwanted noise to the amp if you move around much. The tuner also gives a slightly flat E. The gig bag does not offer much protection just ease of transportation, but definitely not comfort. Some of the stitching is beginning to pull out on the gig bag. The information on the DVD is not anything you can't look up. I personally have no use for picks besides decoration, and I haven't really used the headphones, so I can't say much about them. They definitely went for quantity over quality with this pack. My recommendation: If you're just getting started and would like the ease of everything coming packaged and don't mind most of the additional products being slightly sub-par, then this is a great package at a great price. Buying a bass, amp, strap, cable, and gig bag separately you will spend more money. However, if you wish to commit to playing long term in a band and are willing to spend the extra money, you can get a slightly better bass at a good price out of the GSR200 as well as get yourself an amp with a bit more power (a 15 watt amp will not keep up with a drummer, I've recently upgraded to an Acoustic B200), and accessories that will hold up better.

Guitar is great; Ibanez service stinks

By Bass Mom

from PA

My son got this for Christmas. We immediately went online to sign him up for the free online lessons. Never got the email we were promised with further instructions. And never got an answer to any of my emails to Ibanez either. It was very difficult even figuring out where to send them. No phone number for the company that I could find. So my son is out that benefit. But the bass--he loves it. It looks really nice and he's enjoying teaching himself.

good starter

By Jak2013

from ardmore, OK

I got this pack 2 1/2 years ago and has lasted me ever since but there are downsides the amp has a permanant distortion on it and cannot handle bass chords, the stock strings need to be replaced immediatly to prevent embarrissin moments over all an okay bass will hold special place being my first bass

WORTH IT!!

By M3TAL H3AD

from Endicott,Ny

This package is worth it. The only downside is the amp doesnt last to long and has little tone. Other than the cheap amp,the guitar is great. You can make some pretty heavy tones with guitar and it looks great. My next guitar is DEFINATELY GONNA' BE AN IBANEZ!!!!!! I strongly reccomend this to starter players.

Good starter

By Nick

from Deposit,NY

I got this bass about 1 and a half years ago(when i started playing) I though it was great for starters. I started playing at my church and everyone said it was awsome and sounded great. The amp that comes with is awsome and provides my needs when i put in my other 5 string in to practice. The case kind of stinks because it broke on the first day. But it might be when i tried to put all the accesories, like straps and stuff in it all at once. The video is also helpful and i sometimes watch it because i teach my self and it gets me inspired. tuner is great, cable stinks, and accesory pack works well. Overall i recommend this highly for beginners.
