Just picked one of these up. I was gonna get a Sterling SUB 4 Ray, but I tried this one out, and it was THE one! I got it home, and first thing I did was replace the roundwounds on it with a set of DAddario Chrome flatwounds. One I set the action, intonation and got her tuned up, WOW ! This thing sounds so smooth an mellow, it almost plays itself! I've been playing for about a year, nothing to fancy, jam with a buddy every now and then. I had a Squire affinity series P-bass as m y first bass, and this thing blows it out of the water. The neck is so smooth and fast, I feel like I instantly got better on bass! The spalted maple top is so cool looking, my other hobby is woodworking, so I can appreciate the beautiful wood & finish. The bass seems to be very solid and of high quality materials. This is one purchase I'm glad I made. You will be too, if you get one.
You cannot beat this bass for the price. Beautiful finish, (mine is the spalted maple brown burst) and outstanding sound. I'm a beginner on the bass and this one has been great to mess with and learn on. My close friend owns a guitar shop in another state and plays bass. He plays a Warrior Signature 5, and two Lakeland 55-02's. For those of you who might be new to the bass, That's roughly $6500 in instruments. He highly recommended this Ibanez as a starter bass. The only thing close to this in quality for the price is a USED Squire Mexican made J-Bass. (good luck finding one that's not just beat to all heck for this price) I also have been using it with Rocksmith 2014 for PS3. It works perfectly. My action was slightly high out of the box which I was able to adjust on my own with a truss rod adjustment, and my G string was discolored (most likely from sitting in the box for several months before being sold) but still plays and sounds fine. I've only had it a few weeks at this point and will go ahead and change the strings in a few days to see what difference it makes. The Phat II EQ boost really works well, and is a great perk to a passive pickup system. I would highly recommend the GSR200, GSR200SM, or GSR200FM to any bass player, especially as a first bass.
