I recently purchased the GSR200 Transparent Red. I am very happy with the aesthetic beauty of this instrument and the excellent workmanship for this low end bass. I'm a beginner on electric bass so I can't speak with much experience, however I am very satisfied with my choice and I think I will be able to grow with this bass for many years before trading up, if ever. It did require a little set-up tweaking for intonation, when I first got it. I bought the Ibanez SWR65 amp at the same time and am equally impressed with the sound. I wouldn't recommend going for lower wattage, even for a beginner. I like being able to grow into the equipment as my skill improves.

Overall, I like the bass! Personally, I like the brown sunburst finish. The sound is well balanced and I really enjoy the light weight of this bass. As I mentioned, its NOT a higher end bass by any means and will not compare to one. But, given that it can be used as it is quite adequately, I am impressed that for the price Ibanez can put a decent product in the hands of many bassists.

I have (and have had) Ibanez basses and this one is a keeper! (I recently had an SR 300 and had nothing but problems with it. This bass while cheaper, is far and away a better choice!)
While not a big fan of active basses, this little guy sounds halfway decent! This bass has the bass boost control that can be way more than is needed. Suffice to say I leave it rolled off and use the amp and my outboard effects to control the sound.
The p/j pickups are quite adequate and produce a usable sound that can be set to any style.

Lightweight and the neck dimensions enable smooth playability.

Neck adjustment was required as the neck was set up improperly causing considerable fret buzz. Once properly adjusted, the bass played and sounded fine. (quality control issues?)
My main issue is the frets not being dressed properly. The edges are somewhat rough and can be slightly disconcerting when moving your hand up and down the neck. I assume that this being a lower end model, it doesn't get the quality control as the more expensive models. Some filing of the fret edges may be in order.

Overall, the bass seems to be readily usable to both pro and novice alike once it is set up properly.
Very good value for the price! While not a "higher end" product, this bass does the job and is comfortable-- no weight issues here! Very lightweight bass!

Comments about Ibanez GSR200 4-String Electric Bass:

just learning to play bass and i am very happy with this guitar. it has a thin neck and nicely spaced frets which is a plus if you have small hands. it's lighter in weight than many others i have tried. the tone control and eq give a great range of tones. a friend who plays in a band has commented on how well the bass plays and feels. the overall workmanship and quality seem to be very good and i have had no issues for the 7 months i have had the bass. anyone looking for a good quality bass should check this one out, especially for the price. i feel it's better than your average "starter" bass. make sure you get a good quality amp to take advantage of all this guitar has to offer.

I use this product just to play and it's the first bass I've bought. It was 100% worth it. Great tone, feels great to hold. There's some fret buzz but other than that it's fantastic.

The GSR 200 is an amazing starter bass. I never played any musical instrument and I was going thru a shop and put my eyes on this beautiful bass. It was fun to play and easy to pick up on. I would never of loved the bass if i didn't start with this one.

Comments about Ibanez GSR200 4-String Electric Bass:

This is a good bass for someone learning to play the bass. I'm not a fan of the pickups on this model. Minor problems due to low grade parts but this bass has durability. Ibanez makes a good product but the more money you spend on other models you'll notice a bigger difference.

Comments about Ibanez GSR200 4-String Electric Bass:

I didn't get this bass new, so it already had some a few issues before I started playing it on a regular basis. The overall feel is pretty average over all, a bit heavy considering the flat sound. I never tired to record it because the sound is seriously lacking depth. Really good to practice and jam with especially if you are an aggressive player. The best thing about this bass is the durability, I literally dropped mine down some stairs and nothing broke.

Comments about Ibanez GSR200 4-String Electric Bass:

This bass is far better than it has any right to be, given the price. got it as a hand-me-down from my sister; from its current condition you would never guess all the abuse this poor thing's had. ive taken it on the road in a soft case; ive exposed it to all sorts of awful climates. ive dropped it more than a few times; its been knocked into everything at headstock-level and barely even went out of tune. despite all this it's never needed any repairs and you have to look pretty hard to find a dent.
durability aside, its got fine tone and plays nice with any amp. ibanez makes some real slick necks and this pal is no exception; probably the best neck you'll get at this price. main complaint: my bridge pickup produces a bit of static that i'm not a huge fan of (and once picked up the signal from a remote-control fog machine.. not our best gig) but turning it down a little resolves that pretty well. it's not a very specialized/distinctive sound, but it is quite versatile if your amp has lots of adjustables. and while the tone is not bad it won't knock your socks off. but its got a lovely feel and it gets the job done.

I bought mine used at the local store . I would have bought a new one if I hadn't discovered this one first. I'll use it mostly in church and occasionally in small venues. The tone, feel and finish are as good as my Fender JBass (made in Mexico). PThe tone has a good range and it sits comfortably when using a strap. The price makes this guitar a great bass for beginners as well as a gigging musician.

Comments about Ibanez GSR200 4-String Electric Bass:

I bought the jewel blue one and named it "Jewel". No, not like the singer. I thought it was totally beyond all expectations. I played it for a couple of years before I lost it when my marriage fizzled. Now I want another one.

I'm no novice. I've been playing guitar for over 35 years, and Jewel was my third bass. I liked her better than a Fender Jazz. I want another one.

To nitpick, I didn't like the square corners on the top of the neck (past all the frets), so I took the neck off and rounded them. Problem solved.

I also didn't like that the threads stripped out on the E string bridge piece when I tried to back it up far enough to get the intonation right. But I think the real problem is solved with an Earvana nut.

Anyway, if you can't afford to buy the bass everyone is telling you to buy - or even if you can - buy this one. If you don't sound good on it, you don't need a Fender or a Rick, you need lessons.
