I haven't been playing for about 15 years but decided to get back into jamming with some old friends. I didn't want to waste money on a big name or dollar amount since I will probably never play in front of more than 5 people and I don't need to impress myself. I've always loved the quality and feel of the Ibanez products (I loved the old "roadstar" series) and this guitar just felt right to me. The strat body has always apealed to me except the Ibanez neck fits my hand better. I tried the Squier strats first but was not impressed with the build quality, the Epiphones were nice but I didn't want the same axe as all my son's friends, Deans were also on the radar but I remember their quality was always hit or miss. The stock strings were replaced first thing, I raised the action a touch and lubed up the tuning gear. After that it held its tune better, had clear sound all the way down the neck and didn't "jump" tension during tuning. This guitar replaced my old Kramer and feels like twice the guitar for half the price (and that was 20 years ago). I'd recommend this guitar for anyone on a budget but still wants decent equipment. When teamed up with the Behringer 30 watt amp it is a hell of a value.

i usually stop by to see what new guitars that they have in stock at the guitar center, and I did just that on Monday around November 10th, and I went through their section of the fenders, the gibsons, washburns, etc, and I came across the Ibanez section which is usually kept at the back of the guitar section, and their it was the GR20 hanging on the wall with a clearance price tag. In the past, I have purchased guitar for less than $200 and often then not, I was disappointed, even with a Fender Strat. The One that I play the most now is my Fender Strat Midnight Purple, which I guess is from their standard series, which I have my Roland Gr 20 connected to. Anyway, so I came across the grx20 which felt a lot like the fender strat with the sound closely resembling of the Les Paul with the dual humbucker pickups, and at $79 clearance price, I didn't think it was going to be that good, but when I played it, it felt right with me. I don't know what the original price was, but the guitar seems quite well put together, and this is only my third Ibaez guitar. I still have the one that I have purchased in 82 called the Custom guitar, and I've had one with a floating trem bar with fine tuner on the trem, which I did not like the sound at all. This one, with the five way switch I could get as gritty as Ace or bit twangy in the style of Stevie Ray Vaughan, and I think I found a guitar that I could play from Ace Frehley to Zebra, without switching guitars. It stays in tune well for a guitar equipped with a standard tremolo, and it uses the same type of trem arm from a strat so that's a plus. the tuning hardware isn't as smooth as my other two previous Ibanez guitars, and the Trem arm is a bit on the stiff size. But beyond that, this guitar was more than what I had bargained for in that price range. it far preceeds my warlocke by a couple of miles, and I paid more for the Warlock then this one. Beginner or not, this guitar is not a bad choice. I would have wished if they had the white one, but they were only closing out the black model. I will probably end up replacing the Tremolo with a little softer to the touch one, but other than that, I would have give a four star, but because of the tremolo arm, I am going to give it three stars.

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

I just scored one of these Ibanez GRX 20's and it's a sweet deal. Fit & finish are excellent for the price range. Playability is downright amazing. The guitar is very attractive & feels comfortable to hold. You even get a whammy bar. I would highly recommend this axe for a beginner or anyone who wants a fine guitar for chump change.

Amazing guitar

By Kenny J-

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar,i've had it since September of last year but I never got to put up a review. Anyway this guitar is great for any level of guitarist from begginer to expert it has a fast neck built for shredding not to mention it looks great. The cutaway can get you to the high frets easily and even though it only has 22 frets its a great guitar and it's at a great price

Amasing guitar for under $200.

By Brandon R.

from Mobile,AL

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

The Ibanez GRX20 is one of the best guitars I've seen for under $200. The only problem was that the strings it came with are very thin and broke. But i fixed that with some Ernie Ball slinkys, now it play like a charm. Would recommend to any guitarist on a budget or just starting to enter the guitar world.

By Mosh Mellow

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

This guitar is awesome. I got it as a gift for my birthday. Tone is good(might need a effect processor for a tone you are looking for) and the neck and fret board is well crafted. Great guitar for a person getting started. And for advance players.

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for a little over a year now and it has served me very well. The only thing that i don't like is that the tremolo bar isn't that good. But otherwise its an awesome guitar with a decent sound, and good quality. I also liked the great price. I would recommend this to anyone who is a beginner or someone who's on a tight budget.

Very nice guitar

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

Great for beginners, I'm a total beginner, just starting, and I fell in love with this guitar, I can't wait to start playing. Strings were good right out of the box, just have to tune a lot when you start, have to wear them in. Sounded great! So if your a beginner and want a guitar, for this price you can't really beat it

Still playing this one

By Frankentrout

from Rochester, MN

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

I bought one of these in 1999 - and still have it. I have bought more expensive guitars since, but can't part with this one. I have repaced the pickups and put a graphite nut on it. The payablibilty of this thing is outstanding. It does lack the sustain that a heavier guitar will give you but this an excellent first guitar for anyone. I've been playing for 30 years and owned many guitars. Cannot recommend this one enough for a starter or project guitar.

Excellent Guitar

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

My 15 year old son purchased this guitar a few months back. He loves it! Absolutely no problems at all with it. Work perfectly. The strings that came with it were fine, but my son always changes the strings to the brand that he likes. So other than that, it was awesomly perfect!

Great for the Price!

By ibanezRG

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

This guitar is a great bargain and has the sound I was looking for for under $200. It sounds great with some distortion and its perfect for metal. The pickups aren't that great but for $150, they will do just fine. The GRX is also pretty lightweight but durable. You won't be disappointed with this guitar.

GREAT for the Price

By Himynameisjacob

from Fort Scott, Kansas

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

This was the first guitar I ever bought. I received it two years ago today, I believe! Anywho. I was definitely happy with my choice. This guitar is obviously SUPER affordable, and it's just flat out nice. There were a few problems I'd like to point out, though. For instance the pickups - They picked up EVERYTHING. Even my noise suppresser couldn't eliminate it all. Every little time you touched the guitar, it BLASTED it. Also, I've noticed that you HAVE to hold down every string you aren't playing on, or they'll vibrate quite a lot, especially the A string. Other than that though, I didn't really have any problems with this guitar. It's REALLY nice for the price :]

AMAZING guitar!

By Ibanez5038

from Springfield, Illinois

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

I'm not a beginner anymore, but I'm not a very experienced player either, adding that to my tight budget I wanted a cheap guitar, and I must say some of the reviews I had read discouraged me. But I was wrong in thinking it would only be an ok guitar, it's a lot more than that. It's GREAT! The jewel blue finish is gorgeous, but that's not the only thing that looks nice in the guitar, it's beautiful. The sound is very good too, although I might replace the pickups. The strings that came with it were very good and even though I've been playing for more that 6 hours a day they're as good as new. The strings don't go out of tune, except when you first buy it, but it doesn't last much. Just don't use the tremolo arm a lot because it will get it very out of tune. But this is not a Floyd Rose, so it's ok. I had considered the Squire Strat and I can't say how happy I am I got this instead. It's great for metal and any other genres too, although I think jazz would be better with another type of guitar. Ibanez quality is awesome, this is the best guitar you can get at this price, and it's not only for beginners, it can be good for any other player who doesn't want to spend much. Sure, maybe you wouldn't want to perform for thousands of people with it, but it's still very cool. I really love this guitar, it took me 3 days to do what I couldn't do in 8 months with my other guitar (cheap acoustic).

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

i bought this guitar not really expecting anything special. well was i wrong. for the price this guitar is really great. i can go from playing heavy metal(dropA tuning) to punk rock. every time i switch the guitar sound great. the stock pickups wouldn't be my first choice and I've been looking on replacing them but overall its a great buy. pit some Seymour Duncans is this and you have yourself a professional grade guitar.

Ibanez GRX20

By Mike

from North Port, FL

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

This guitar is obviously for if you play a genre associated with metal. I feel that the quality of this guitar is sub-par. The sustain is a little less than mediocre and theweight of the guitar is a dead giveaway that this is not Ibanez's best work. The only reason I would ever consider buying this guitar is if you are a beginner. The value of this guitar is a plus. You probably wont find name brand guitars for this cheap.
