I haven't been playing for about 15 years but decided to get back into jamming with some old friends. I didn't want to waste money on a big name or dollar amount since I will probably never play in front of more than 5 people and I don't need to impress myself. I've always loved the quality and feel of the Ibanez products (I loved the old "roadstar" series) and this guitar just felt right to me. The strat body has always apealed to me except the Ibanez neck fits my hand better. I tried the Squier strats first but was not impressed with the build quality, the Epiphones were nice but I didn't want the same axe as all my son's friends, Deans were also on the radar but I remember their quality was always hit or miss. The stock strings were replaced first thing, I raised the action a touch and lubed up the tuning gear. After that it held its tune better, had clear sound all the way down the neck and didn't "jump" tension during tuning. This guitar replaced my old Kramer and feels like twice the guitar for half the price (and that was 20 years ago). I'd recommend this guitar for anyone on a budget but still wants decent equipment. When teamed up with the Behringer 30 watt amp it is a hell of a value.

i bought this guitar off of this website about a year ago and it took about a week or two to come in the mail and when i got it well....the bridge needed fixed but that is understandable but the thing that really threw me off is that when i got it my neck pickup was and still is DEAD!!! it does not work at all so i can only use the bridge pickup now

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

i bought this guitar not really expecting anything special. well was i wrong. for the price this guitar is really great. i can go from playing heavy metal(dropA tuning) to punk rock. every time i switch the guitar sound great. the stock pickups wouldn't be my first choice and I've been looking on replacing them but overall its a great buy. pit some Seymour Duncans is this and you have yourself a professional grade guitar.

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

This year for Christmas, I decided I wanted to learn how to play guitar, and my dad bought me this awesome Ibanez!! I didn't know what to expect when I got it, but I was really hoping to get a metal sound like I have always wanted while playing countless hours of air guitar. Now that I have an amp and have been taking some lessons, this thing is an absolute screaming deal!! All I've done to this guitar is upgrade the strings to thicker, coated strings so I can hit the lower notes in either D or C, and it sounds great. It's comfortable and easy to play, and I would honestly probably play it in a live show if I ever get to that stage with my playing. I recommend this guitar for any beginner metal head like myself. It looks cool, has a really good quality build to it, and has a great sound. My guitar instructor was even impressed with the quality of the guitar. Pick this up and an amp, and you're set!

couldn't walk away

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

i usually stop by to see what new guitars that they have in stock at the guitar center, and I did just that on Monday around November 10th, and I went through their section of the fenders, the gibsons, washburns, etc, and I came across the Ibanez section which is usually kept at the back of the guitar section, and their it was the GR20 hanging on the wall with a clearance price tag. In the past, I have purchased guitar for less than $200 and often then not, I was disappointed, even with a Fender Strat. The One that I play the most now is my Fender Strat Midnight Purple, which I guess is from their standard series, which I have my Roland Gr 20 connected to. Anyway, so I came across the grx20 which felt a lot like the fender strat with the sound closely resembling of the Les Paul with the dual humbucker pickups, and at $79 clearance price, I didn't think it was going to be that good, but when I played it, it felt right with me. I don't know what the original price was, but the guitar seems quite well put together, and this is only my third Ibaez guitar. I still have the one that I have purchased in 82 called the Custom guitar, and I've had one with a floating trem bar with fine tuner on the trem, which I did not like the sound at all. This one, with the five way switch I could get as gritty as Ace or bit twangy in the style of Stevie Ray Vaughan, and I think I found a guitar that I could play from Ace Frehley to Zebra, without switching guitars. It stays in tune well for a guitar equipped with a standard tremolo, and it uses the same type of trem arm from a strat so that's a plus. the tuning hardware isn't as smooth as my other two previous Ibanez guitars, and the Trem arm is a bit on the stiff size. But beyond that, this guitar was more than what I had bargained for in that price range. it far preceeds my warlocke by a couple of miles, and I paid more for the Warlock then this one. Beginner or not, this guitar is not a bad choice. I would have wished if they had the white one, but they were only closing out the black model. I will probably end up replacing the Tremolo with a little softer to the touch one, but other than that, I would have give a four star, but because of the tremolo arm, I am going to give it three stars.

Not really worth the money...

By

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

I bought mine back in 2010 and I've had 2 MAJOR problems with it. The first one was right off the bat. The manufacturer put the tremolo bar into the bridge hole and cross threaded the bar and when I went to remove it the day I received the guitar, the bar snapped off and there is a piece of it stuck in the bridge. Now I have to fork put money to get a new bridge and repair it myself or pay more to have it repaired. The reason I didn't get a refund is because that particular incident isn't covered under the warranty. The 2nd issue is the screw holes for the output jack at the bottom are stripped out completely. The screws won't stay in at all. I had to rig it by rotating the plate and making my own holes so the plate will stay in place. So, needless to say, I'll never buy another one.

GRX20

By

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

I ordered this guitar as a present to my son from the Guitar Center Web Site and had them ship it to my local store. After being e-mailed that it had arrived I rushed over and the Assistant Manager and guitar technician opened the delivery box for me. Now these were the guys at Lyons Road in Coconut Creek, Florida. As a experienced guitar player everything was in place; looked good, great looking guitar. Ibanez's Jewel blue color has to be one of the greatest inventions of color known. I think there is a coat of silver under the cobalt blue so it just glows. Now let's get down to aces and cases. When I got the guitar home the first fret chords played in tune but each increment up the neck went increasingly out of tune. I tried to intonate it first and then realized that I had violated the first rule of guitar setup. Check the neck relief. The neck was too concave and with the supplied Ibanez tools I was able to convex the neck, making it more straight and this also cured the intonation. I also lowered the pickups as to ease the magnetic pull on the strings and found that all of these actions allowed the guitar to play in tune from the first fret to the last. I really complement Ibanez for allowing enough room to accurately intonate every string so that every note plays in tune up and down the neck. My son loves this guitar, the color and especially the so hot humbuckers. And for basswood body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard; what a price.

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

I recieved this guitar as a gift for christmas and it has served its purpose. It is a fantastic guitar for starters. the only thing i dont like about it is the non locking tremolo system because i am a heavy metal fan and love playing heavy metal. But like I said i got it as my first electric guitar and it served its purpose. It has a great feel and would be a starters dream

One of the Best Guitars for the Value

By

from Osceola Indiana

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

I've been playing this guitar for a week now and I can tell you that I have improved dramatically. I've been playing for almost a year now and have played on maybe 50 guitars(Dads a big guitar owner) and this guitar is by far my favorite. I'm stunned that they are selling it for so cheap. The sound is amazing and I've only had to tune my strings once since I've put on new ones. But there are a few flaws to it. The pickups are very sensitive so you might want to replace them but they aren't as terrible as some seem to think. Just buy some when you have some extra money. Another thing is the tremelo bar has already been stripped and I only took it out once. Next the finish on the neck has been rubbing off on my fingers a bit leaving them blackened. But all the faults on this guitar are little things that can be fixed or will eventually just go away. This is a must buy for just about any player.
