Overview

Ibanez classical guitars take the guesswork out of finding an affordable, great-sounding classical guitar that's easy to fret and play. Whether you are looking for a traditional classical-sized instrument or a comfortable nylon-string beginner guitar, they are extremely well-constructed, affordable and have the pristine tonality and playability of much more expensive instruments.

The GA35 has a spruce top and mahogany body that's only 2-3/4" thick. Being more resistant to feedback, it's ideal for stage work. It also has a narrower neck than a standard classical guitar making it a great crossover instrument for the steel-string or electric-guitar player. A cutaway and 14th-fret neck joint further enhance the playability of this affordable nylon string.

AEQ210T Preamp
The Ibanez AEQ210T 2-band tone control with built-in tuner is optimized for use with Ibanez undersaddle pickup and comes with a Phase switch.

Balanced XLR and 1/4" Outputs
In addition to the 1/4" output jack, a balanced XLR jack is included for direct connection to a PA system. AA battery operation avoids the difficulty in finding replacement batteries.

Case sold separately.

I'm not easily impressed...

By Mark Adams

from Stanton, CA

Comments about Ibanez GA35 Thinline Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

As I stated in the title, I'm not easily impressed. But, I just got my GA35CTE about an hour ago, pulled it out of the box, plugged it into my AG Stomp and Acoustisonic amp, tuned it up, and started playing. Well, I am not only impressed, but I dig it. It looks great and sounds pretty amazing. I've been looking for a hybrid type nylon to supplement my playing, but didn't want to spend a lot of money. At least not until I had a chance to see what I could do with it. I had a 20% off coupon, so I took a chance and ordered this guitar, sight unseen, never played one before, based solely on design, size, price, reviews, and the Ibanez name. I've tested many, but have never played one in this price range that even comes close. I can't say how it will sound and look a year from now, but at this point I would definitely recommend it for all players from beginner to professional (there's always a place for a guitar like this in anybody's guitar stable). The only negative is that it is being touted as using AA batteries...not so. Mine takes a 9 volt battery like the rest of my guitars and basses. I rate this guitar as a 4.5, but only because of the battery difference.

Great guitar for the money

By Steve

from Detroit, MI

Comments about Ibanez GA35 Thinline Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

I have owned a couple other classical guitars in the past, including a Cordoba and a Takamine. Compared with those two, the Ibanez GA35 plays just as well, if not better. The thin design makes playing it very comfortable. The electronics on it aren't anything super special, but the feel and acoustic sound of this guitar makes this a great buy. I would not hesitate to buy this guitar again.

Good for the price

By Arth

from Granby, CT

Comments about Ibanez GA35 Thinline Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

I like playing this guitar. It feels great, and the simple electronics work well for when you need them, and it weighs next to nothing.
Being a thinline, it doesn't have a lot of sound. There is a full thickness version that's louder.
And it needs a good setup out of the box. The action was way too high, like a beginner's classical guitar. I filed down the nut and bridge, changed to better (for me) strings, adjusted the truss rod, added a clear strike plate, and now it works really well.

Mine has some factory finish blemishes, but I can overlook that, because it does really play well.

I would not recommend this to a friend, because I would never recommend any purchase to a friend.
The guitar is good for me, but may not be good for others.

It's a great little guitar, especially for the price.

Comments about Ibanez GA35 Thinline Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

Really nice little guitar for the price. Very nice sound acoustically, though quiet. Nice fit for small hands. Light and agile. Great option to play nylon strings electrically. A great acoustic/electric choice for the classical player or the folk guitarist who wants to spare his/her fingers. Very mellow sound overall. Very worthwhile.

Comments about Ibanez GA35 Thinline Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

This guitar looks, plays and sounds like it should be way more expensive! I bought mine with a 20% off coupon, so I feel like I got the deal of the century!
This guitar will work in so many situations. Basically anywhere your looking for a classical guitar sound and style. Live, recording, plugged in or just acoustic, works all around.
My only complaint, and it's minor, is the tuner does not auto-off, so if you are not used to this and forget to turn it off after you tune up, it's a battery killer. Only complaint I could come up with!

    • cutaway
    • decent electronics
    • narrower fingerboard
    • onboard tuner
    • slim body
    • strap buttons

    Cons

    • all laminated woods
    • could sound better when plugged in
    • sound isn't very full

    Best Uses

    • practicing
    • small venues
    • travel guitar

Comments about Ibanez GA35 Thinline Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

This was my first guitar. The nylon strings are (obviously) great on your fingers and as now as a primarily steel-string player, the narrower fingerboard makes this guitar a great classical hybrid. As mentioned above, the sound isn't very full, but that's to be expected out of a smaller guitar made out of all laminated woods. However, when played acoustically, the sound is warm, mellow, and sweet.
Of course, once you plug it in, you really have to play around with the EQ to make it not sound like a ukelele. So, the electronics on it could be a little better. But on the other hand, it's nice to just be able to plug in and play.
It's got a cutaway and comes with strap buttons, which isn't very common on classical guitars. So that's nice.
The slim body is both a blessing and a curse. On the blessing side, this little guy will easily fit into a electric guitar gigbag, and it's very light and easy to travel with.
The onboard tuner could be more accurate, but it'll get you close enough. I just went ahead and bought a Super Snark.
Of course, being a classical guitar, this isn't going to have a pickguard. So, over the years, a part of the wood where my picks and nails were hitting it started to wear away. Taylor makes a nice removable pickguard that I put on this guitar, and it really helps protect the finish.
The nylon strings are awesome on tired fingers!
If you're looking for a nice classical guitar with some more modern appointments, don't look any further than the Ibanez GA35 Thinline.
    Thumbs Up!

Seems like a great guitar. I noticed some feedback issues when sitting in front of a loud monitor so I am trying to find a sound hole plug that will fit it.
