Comments about Ibanez GA1 1/2 Size Classical Guitar:
This guitar will be a Christmas present for my nearly 5 year old son. There aren't too many options in 1/2 sized guitars, and even at 1/2 size, most are large for his body. I figured that if it's too big, I'll tune the guitar down and put a capo at an appropriate fret for the boy so that he can still play in key. Pricing was excellent at Guitar Center, and delivery was quick. Upon receipt, I opened the box to make sure everything was good. It arrived triple (!) boxed, so it was in pristine condition. Inside the Ibanez box, the guitar was wrapped in a soft foam bag. After removing it from its bag, I found no defects on the guitar. No nicks, scratches or dings, and the stain and coating were nice and evenly applied. Tuner knobs are plastic, but don't show mold lines. As is often the case with classical guitars, the frets are sharp on the edge of the neck. So, I'll get a fret file and fix that. Tuned it to an E just fine and played it for a minute, finding it to be quite enjoyable. Action is low for a classical, which I expected from an Ibanez, but not too low. I'm expecting the action to be a good compromise for a 5 year old. Its neck width is another good compromise of being substantial, but not too thick for a child. The body size was a little bigger than I expected. The guitar kept tune during my short session with it before boxing it back up in preparation for Christmas. I'm very happy with this guitar, and I'm looking forward to my son enjoying it for many years until he moves to a 3/4 or full size.
