i purchased this guitar some time ago when i was beginning to learn to play guitar. i was looking to get a new guitar but since i was still a beginner, i did not want to spend to much on a guitar. the price caught my eye and since my friend who has been playing the guitar since the cradle was with me, i asked him to test it it out. He was impressed with the quality of the guitar both plugged and unplugged. so i got the guitar and now a year or two later i am still impressed with how the guitar performs. we even use for live performances and recording and it does not disappoint. this is a great guitar to get and it will keep up with you.

I just bought this guitar (made in China, I don't know if they are always made in China)... Don't buy it. It doesn't have a good accoustic sound ( I didn't have the chance to test it plugged yet). The sound has no "body", it fades away quickly, it also has a funny buz which does not seem to be related to the frats, finally some strings do touch the frats even when you adjust them. I would return it based on the above, but worst of all some of the frats are like blades (as a very small and sharp part of the metal if sticking out of the guitar arm), when I move my left hand to change chords or do a solo it cuts the bottom of my index finger. first it was just cutting the skin and I kept playing to see if the buz and all would go away, but now it really cut me... Don't buy it... put $50 or $100 more and buy a better guitar.

All-around great bang for the buck.

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5TCE Thinline Classical Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've played the guitar for 45 years. I don't play enough any more to keep my fingertips calloused, so I needed a nylon stringed instrument to play now and then. The setup was perfect for me right out of the box. No buzz anywhere. The finish was nice, the tone is nice, and I like the thin body. The neck is narrower than a standard classical, which was a main reason I bought it. I highly recommend it for anyone accustomed to playing a steel string guitar.

Great way to get started in the nylon acoust- electric sound

By Marty B

from Baltimore MD.

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5TCE Thinline Classical Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

If your leery of the nylon electric sound, this is a good guitar to get your feet wet. I've been playing it for 3 years now and use it for performance and recording with great results. I love thinlines especially if I am standing.

Looked so hard for this, fantastic!

By Pamela

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5TCE Thinline Classical Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I looked in 4 music stores for a guitar with the same specs as this one: acoustic/electric, nylon strings, and a narrow neck. I only found one other guitar in the 4 music stores that fit these specs, but it was $50 more expensive than this guitar. This guitar is more affordable and beautiful. It sounds great plugged in, and the narrow neck makes it easier to play than a classical guitar with a wider neck. It has a thinner body than a classical guitar, so it is more quiet when played acoustically, but it's loud enough for me. I would definitely recommend this guitar!

What a Fun Instrument!

By Rod Tidemann

from Citrus Heights, CA

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5TCE Thinline Classical Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I'm a novice, having take up the guitar upon retirement. Due to an annoying pinched nerve in my left hand and limited spread, I had just about given up trying to learn on my steal string and go back to the classical. Then I ran onto the GA5TCE, a great hybrid. The nylon strings make it easier to play and the narrow neck with the full fretboard make a nice complement to the steel string. An excellent beginner guitar. The smaller/thinner body is nice to handle and the unamplified tone sounds full and pleasant. The quality is great, especially for the price. The action was adjusted perfectly right out of the box and the intonation is spot on. I have since put on hard tension "Dynacore" strings for a little more brightness.

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5TCE Thinline Classical Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This seems to be pretty well made and nicely set-up, especially for the price. Good looking, (my wife says it's "pretty") with nice action and a comfortable neck. Really needs fret dressing, as the ends are extremely sharp. This wasn't my first choice for a nylon string guitar, (the Ibanez AEG10NE is nicer, but the tangerine-color finish is hideous) but so far I'm happy with it, it serves well as an easy-playing guitar for my old arthritic hands.

Nice but needs fret dressing

By Houself

Pros

  • Good Neck And Fretboard
  • Nice Finish
  • well made for price

Cons

  • No case available
  • Sharp Fret Ends

Best Uses

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5TCE Thinline Classical Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Seems well-made, especially for price. Actually would have preferred the AEG10NE, but couldn't take the orange color (Ibanez, please, make natural a choice again).

Guitar plays well, and the thin neck is easy on my old arthritic hands.

On the down side, be ready to do some fret dressing. The sides of the frets are very sharp. Also, can't seem to find a case that fits.

    This guitar met all requirements.

    By David Schnerr

    from Evansville Indiana

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5TCE Thinline Classical Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was looking for an electric classical guitar with a cutaway, neck attached at the 14th fret and a 1 1/2" nut. The price point had to be under $350 and $300 even better. It also had to sound good unplugged. The body thickness didn't matter. This guitar met all of my expectations and with GC's $30 coupon and a $20 gift card, I came in at $199. I use this for performances that don't require a traditional classical guitar. I can play pop and jazz music on this too. I wanted a 'plug and play' instrument and this is a great guitar for that.
