Overview

There are a lot of guitars to choose from. The Ibanez EW20ZWE EXOTIC WOOD SERIES Zebrawood Acoustic-Electric Guitar is different. Singular in looks and sound because it's made from exotic African zebrawood. The grain patterns are striking, and while it's a difficult wood to work with, it is durable and ages very well. It's amazing to find an exotic wood guitar in this price range.

For faithful reproduction of acoustic tone, a B-Band UST pickup is paired with the Ibanez SRTn preamp with notch filter and an onboard tuner. Tune anytime, anywhere. You'll also be ready for whatever connections are available; the EW20ZWENT is equipped with balanced 1/4" and XLR outputs.

Paired with the fine wood are high-end cosmetic appointments also found on guitars costing much more: an abalone rosette, Ibanez chrome die-cast tuners and a natural high-gloss finish. If you've been holding back on an acoustic guitar purchase because you haven't found the right features at the right price, your wait is over.

Case sold separately.

When I started looking for my first acoustic-electric guitar (I mainly play electric), I was mainly interested in sound quality. Something that would inspire me (I'm the lead guitarist/singer). I read a lot about how to choose an acoustic guitar, about wood and this and that. But, when it came down to it, I just wanted a instrument that made feel like getting up and jamming. I spent a total of 3+ hours between two music stores and decided on this guitar. Awesome sound!!!! I kept doing A B testing with other guitars that were hanging on the wall. I even tried more expensive acoustic electrics and 12 strings. But kept coming back to this one. Some other guitars sound just a tid bit better unplugged. But when you plug this baby in, WHOA! That's all I gotta say. Not to metion, and though least of my concerns, the design of the guitar made some turn heads and say to me "dang! that's tight!" Valuewise, let me preface by saying that I'm a cheapskate bargain hunter. The only reason I rated this 4.5 in value is because this purchase didn't feel like a steal/bargain although it is an excellent value considering there are $1,200 guitars out there. But, if I had gotten it, even used, for $140 or so, that would have made me smile :). Looking through the sound hole, it said it's "made in China". I've heard how many people sneer at that. But, here I'm jamming on another quality/value product from China. Each to his own.

I bought this guitar at GC in 2008. Play well and sounds good for a lower priced acoustic. Unfortunately after a few years the machine heads started to go and Ibanez will only warranty them for a year. The guitar is no longer playable. My 1972 Gibson with its original machine heads still holds a tune perfectly as well as my 1980 Gibson LP. I wouldn't waste money on a guitar that will only be useful for a few years. There are many other brands out there that sound better and will last for decades.

Amzing!!!!

By Bryson Samsill

from Paradise Texas

I bought this guitar one month ago and I love it! I bought to use at our church for rhythm guitar and not only I but my worship leader was extremly impressed. It is a must have not only for on stage but also for playing it unpluged. No issues found except for the tuner has trouble picking up The B string and it gets confussed with the High E string which is normal with onboard tuners. I highly suggest it to intermidate players

I bought the lemon

By Daniel Iacono

from Pittsboro, NC

Well, after owning this guitar I have to say that I am disappointed. When I first got the guitar home it had fret buzz, but I wasn't to concerned knowing that I had a great place to take it and have it adjusted. I have had several other guitars adjusted which were all wonderfull. Now back to the Ibanez. I get it back from the luthier and the buzz was gone and the fret board was adjusted, do to the fact that there were several high frets. So I get the guitar back and it plays great for awhile. After 4 months the guitar starts buzzing again. Now it buzz's all over the place. Up and down the neck. Tried adjusting it and to no avail. I also noticed now that there is a slight gap where the bridge is mounted to the body. I don't even want sell it to anyone because it just wouldn't be fair. I know several of the reviews give alot of praise for this guitar but I purchased the lemon off of the assembly line. I guess I can hanging on the wall as an art piece.

Great Looking Great Playing

By Frank Bello

from Huntington, NY

I was struck by the unusual look of this guitar. I had reservations about a guitar not made with traditional wood. The nice thing is, in acoustic mode, you get a guitar that has tone that is different than other guitars. Is it better tone? No, just different. I have other acoustic guitars that are traditional sounding so being that this one is different is a good thing for me. Also, the newest model comes with Chorus as well as Phaser electric settings. Plugged in, this guitar is really awesome and getting back to the looks, well there's really nothing else like it.

Great Guitar!!!

By Sam Roberts

from Chicago, IL

This guitar is absolutly stunning!I've had it for about 3 weeks. The strong zebrawood gives it a very distinctive look. When I pull this baby out everyone just stares. It looks like a $1,200 guitar. The infinity sign on the 12th fret also points out its beauty. This guitar, however, doesn't sound like a $1,200 guitar. The soumd at first is a little ringy. As in, it rings out and vibrates a little. The sound is also very heavy/thick sounding. But this guitar is a great thing to get an indermidiate or even expert player. Put some Martin Acoustic AP strings on this baby, and you'll be sounding your best. I reccomend this guitar highly!

Best Guitar I've Ever Had

By Heather Hancock

from Houston, Texas

Not only is it's appearance stunning but it plays even better than it looks. A very bright and balanced tone that's just phenomenal. I can't get over it. I've had it for about a year and I still have a hard time convincing myself to put it down every once in a while. The quality of this guitar definitely surpases it's price!

Started great but went downhill

By Paul Christiansen

from Oro Valley, Arizona

When I first got this zebrawood guitar I really enjoyed playing it, nice action and great mellow sound. After less than one year it began buzzing on virtually all frets and all strings. I've changed stings, made adjustments, and had two competent luthiers look at it. Both luthiers diagnosed it as a lemon; I'm not sure exactly what is wrong, but both said it was unfixable. After owning the guitar for two years, it has become basically unplayable. Ibanez is a reputable company and I'm sure many of their guitars are fantastic, but I'm certainly not happy with this one.

AWESOME !!!

By Bobby Norton

from Washington Indiana

I played this guitar a GC in Evansville,IN a week ago and loved it. I got online to find more info on it. I read all the reviews on this site and couldn't go against what everyone said. This guitar has great sound and it just feels good in your hands. When I got it home, I couldn't wait to get it plugged in. I was AMAZED !! I couldn't get anything done around the house because I couldn't pull myself away from playing it. The only thing that scared me was that one review said that they had a hard time finding a hard case to fit it. So I took my case with me to make sure it would fit. If it was any bigger, I would've been looking for a new case too. But that thing fit like a glove. I wanted to upgrade to a better guitar and try to keep the price within my range. I traded in a couple of my old acoustics and I have to say that I got every bit of my money's worth from this guitar. One thing I love about the Zebra wood is that it's like a finger print. No two guitars are alike. Bravo Ibanez for getting such a great guitar out there for those of us who can't afford a high priced one. And Bravo to Guitar Center for being such a great help. Your employees were very helpful and very down to earth. ROCK ON !!!
