I've been playing for 43 years and have played a plethora of great acoustic guitars. When I first picked this guitar up to play it I couldn't believe the sound that was coming out of such a small guitar. Putting a set of new Martin SP 80/20 Bronze Extra Lights on it, I was pleasantly surprised that it still produced a big sound! I play a lot of acoustic lead and with it's narrow neck and having the action lowered a bit, it makes for effortless playing... I've owned this guitar for almost 5 years and it has stood up quite well. The resonance has a very crystal clear tone and when played direct through the xlr output it has awesome clarity in the low and high registers and has no issues with filling a large auditorium with great sound. With it's thinner body it makes for a very comfortable playing instrument. I would definitely recommend this guitar for a serious beginner or a seasoned pro to use on stage or just kick back and relax with at home when penning that next hit!
Pros: -Surprisingly this guitar sounds as excellent as it looks considering it was made in China! It has excellent lows and nice crisp highs when played acoustically. -The quilted Mahogany finish is stunning, and the workmanship especially around the bindings and joints is superb considering the low price! -The built in tuner facilitates super quick tune-ups without having to purchase a tuner. It requires 2 AA batteries. (Sorry, i've only had it for a couple of days, so i have no idea how long the batteries will last when used with the preamp.) -I play it through a 85W Fender solid state amp and a non-XLR Dimarzio cable for some great sound. However, the majority of the time i play it unplugged. -I found the neck to be very comfortable considering i have large hands and prefer Les Paul type necks. Cons: -The action was a little high for my liking and had a slight bow in the neck. I don't know whether it shipped like that from the factory or was caused from too much tension on the neck while hanging in the store for so long. It wasn't anything my friends at Raritan Bay Guitar, Freehold NJ couldn't fix. -No instructions/spec sheet for use of pre-amp controls. Unable to locate information at Ibanez website for this specific model.
This guitar has so many positive features you need to see it and play it to believe it. The sound is clear and sweet, no buzzing in the strings. The smaller body size is great for a woman or for a man who wants a smaller profile guitar. The exotic wood with abalone is stunning and different. I did not think I would ever want a finish like this, but it is so beautiful. The on board tuner is handy as well. It is a perfect guitar for many reasons, just need to try it out, it is a great value as well.
