I've owned this guitar for almost 2 years now. I was absolutely amazed by it from the first time I saw it, held it, and played it. The feel, the weight, and the balance were fantastic. The tone and range of tones were everything one could want in a dual humbucker electric. I loved the smaller body size too, and what a looker. For the money, it's hard to believe they can produce an instrument like this. I've played the Gibson counter-parts and there is absolutely nothing that justifies the enormous price difference. Gibsons in general to me are over priced and over blown. The two minor changes I made to turn this into something nearly perfect were that I had to file a corner of the low E saddle to round it off, as it was sharp. I hit it a lot on percussive and heel-hand stop picking. And the tuners could not hold a note very well so I replaced them with auto-locking Gotohs. I've owned easily 100 guitars over the years. This ax is a real gem my friends!

Beautiful guitar with great tone

By Scott Beattie

from Vernon, CT

Comments about Ibanez Artcore Expressionist AM93 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

After playing an American Standard Stratocaster for years, I was looking for a totally different sounding guitar. I came across this Ibanez AM93 in the Transparent Red Sunburst and just loved the look of it. I ended up ordering it through the store since GC doesn't stock them in the store. I trusted other reviews that it would sound great and I was not disappointed. The fit and finish of the guitar are quite good. The only gripe I have is that the pots/dials could have been installed a little better. One of the volume knobs sits a little higher above the guitar body than the other knobs. Of course, this doesn't affect the playability of the guitar at all. It's more of a knit-picky thing on my part and actually the knobs are very nice themselves. They turn easily but not too easily, and I like the rubberized grippy edge on them. They look really nice too. This guitar really is amazing. I don't really know how much better you could get, even if you bought a more expensive guitar. The finish/wood is great and the neck is amazing. Out of the box the action is perfect, even feels better than my Strat. I truly love the tone that this guitar has. You really can't go wrong for $549 with this instrument.

Stellar Performer

By Drake Tunson

from Charlotte, NC

Comments about Ibanez Artcore Expressionist AM93 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

Ibanez' AM93 is one superbly crafted instrument. I purchased the transparent red sunburst finish model and not only is it a handsome guitar in appearance (with its quilted maple top), it simply shines from the quality, versatility and performance aspects. Having tested several other fine guitar brands - the AM93 simply suits my tastes and preference for a quality instrument with great looks and excellent tonal variety. The Ibanez Super 58 pickups are very responsive and complement the instrument's other quality attributes (i.e. comfortable neck, small body with full/warm tone). I'm enjoying every aspect of this guitar and would recommend to anyone who's looking for exceptional quality, versatility and great value.

Comments about Ibanez Artcore Expressionist AM93 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

I've been playing for over 55 years and can say that this is one of the best guitars I have ever played. Light weight, smooth neck, no sharp frets, love the 58 pick-ups, the only thing i changed was to put no strap locks, and locking tuners. Nothing else needs to be changed. Great electronics, and love the speed knobs. B y the way I do not work for Ibanez or Guitar Center. this is probably the biggest bang for your buck you can get. I've owned or still own Strats, PRS, Epiphone, Heritage (same as Gibson), Gretsch, and Carvin, and other Ibanez guitars the AM93 rates up there with the best of them. Can't say enough good things about it, great work to the Ibanez builders.

    Artcore Does It Again

    By Gary Renegar

    from Carmel IN

Comments about Ibanez Artcore Expressionist AM93 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

This is a beautiful thinline semi-hollow body guitar. The pickups are perfectly balanced and produce a sweet melodic tone. The neck is thin and easy to play, a bit thicker at the nut than some other Artcores (I also have the Agr-td)but still a joy to play. There are a few little flaws in the cosmetics, but for the price, this guitar can't be beat. Ibanez hit a winner with their Artcore series and their instruments seem to get better each year. The binding on this instrument is cream colored (not white) and has the grain similar to ivoroid. The f-holes are bound in black plastic, a nice touch. It has a solid block down the middle which makes it a little heavier than you might expect. It's a great guitar and I have extra callouses from not being ab le to put it down for more than 12 hours at a time. I'm just waiting for the next Artcore model to come out.

    A Beautiful Instrument

    By William Easton

    from ROSEVILLE, CA.

Comments about Ibanez Artcore Expressionist AM93 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

I was a little concerned about ordering direct from the factory. Not to hold and see this guitar before purchasing was a bit of a worry. Being reassured by the staff at Guitar Center that I could return it if I found something I did not like, I placed my order. I was told that it would be a two week wait for delivery. And exactly two weeks later it was delivered at my door. It was well packed and when I removed this Artcore AM-93, I could not believe how beautiful it is. After a close inspection honestly, I could not fine any flaws or things to be concerned about. The finish is gorgeous and the frets are perfect. The binding is flawless!I am in love with this guitar. I changed the heavy strings that it came with and reinstalled a set of .011 Chrome Flat Wounds. The action needs lowering for my taste, so I will have this done by an expert. This instrument is a joy to play and the pickups respond fine for the jazz & blues style playing that I do. I don't see how they can produce a nice instrument like this for this price. Ebanez must really watch their quality control. The folks at Guitar Center are great to deal with and were very helpful and reassuring in placing my order.

    Awesome guitar all around!

    By Jacob

Comments about Ibanez Artcore Expressionist AM93 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

I was hesitant to buy this guitar sight unseen or played. But i felt pretty confident after reading the reviews here. I was NOT disappointed. Infact the exact opposite was true. I play a somewhat large variety of music, I will go from Chet Atkins finger picking to Brian Setzer rockabilly and switch right into Megadeath and Metallica without batting an eye. This guitar covers such a wide variety of tones that it can handle ALL of the genres very nicely. I highly recommend this instrument. You cannot beat the price that GC offers and when you consider they shipped it right to my front door in just a few days for free!!! One note: The only thing I can say negatively about this guitar is that the tuners are a touch slippery. That could be the strings? But most likely it is somewhat cheap tuners. I will probably NEVER sell this guitar, but I will most likely eventually replace the tuners with higher quality.

    My first Ibanez.

    By Steve Neme

    from Grand Prairie, Texas

Comments about Ibanez Artcore Expressionist AM93 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar. Not just for the price, but for anyone looking to add a little variety to their collection. I have an Epiphone 339 Pro and a Thinline Telecaster, so I was a little wary of adding another semi-hollow to my collection but after playing this I couldn't help but own it. It's got a pretty nice clean tone in the first two switch positions and handles overdrive really well, the third position gets a little muddy but sounds excellent with the overdrive if you're thickening up a rhythm part. The pickups are great and are evidently an upgrade from the pickups in the AS73, which was another guitar I had looked into. I have never owned an Ibanez guitar before, probably because of all the awful groups that popularized them in the 90's, but this is far from the Nu-Metal kind of guitar I saw Ibanez putting out back then. This guitar is also stunning to look at, and that is a major perk when walking into my practice room - it makes you want to pick it up and play it. The only issue I had with this guitar was shoddy fret work, which caused me to promptly exchange the first version I had picked up for one with better quality frets. Evidently the frets hadn't been hammered in and this was causing a horrible buzz. Well done, Ibanez, you've made a new fan of me, at least when it comes to your semi-hollow guitars.

    Terrific semi-hollow

    By David Wells

    from San Jose, CA

Comments about Ibanez Artcore Expressionist AM93 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

Bought this model a few weeks ago and have been really enjoying it. I play a wide variety of music, from reggae to pop to modern rock to slightly harder stuff, and this covers the gamut. Finish is really superb - I don't care where it was made, my unit arrived pretty much flawless and very well setup. Intonation was spot-on and action was terrific right out of the box. The only improvement I can imagine is a minor mod I'm considering doing, swapping the volume pots for push-pull types and tapping the coils in both humbuckers. If you scan the Ibanez line, you'll see several pricier models that have coil-tap switches. I think this will expand the range of tones even further, letting me take this from Tele to Strat to LP to near-hollow body tones. The only question is can I do this without performing major surgery on the Super-58 Custom HB's. Unfortunately I cannot find hard spec's on the pickups anywhere, so I'll have to open it up to figure out how many leads the pup's have. I did alot of research before purcasing this, and I don't think you can find a better quality, better looking, better sounding guitar at this price point anywhere.

    Amazing for the money

    By steve terhune

Comments about Ibanez Artcore Expressionist AM93 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

The Ibanez necks on their hollowbody guitars are some of the most playable I have ever owned. See my review on the GB-10. I went to look at this one yesterday ay my local GC. I was blown away by the beauty of it, the perfect workmanship, the woods, finish- even the knobs are cooler than a Gibson. The pickups are great for a sub $1000 guitar, although I may go with some Classic '59's or PAF-type ones, just to take it up another notch. I have owned some incredible and expensive guitars like a PRS hollowbody, Fenders and Gibson's, and Gretsch and, although they are mostly great guitars, many, especially the Gibsons, have finish and binding flaws. Not PRS, our hometown boy, BTW. I would recommend that you play this one. Trying it out doesn't cost you a penny.
