I've had this guitar about 10 months it's been good to me and brought me back into guitar playing something I now have time to focus on. It has good tone and for the price has a lot going for it.. I think the H pick ups could be better and I might change them, I have added the optional pick guard, (something to rest my fingers on). The coated brass bridge etc. could be of better quality as the coating, (polished), wears off after some use, (sweat related), so some clear nail polish may add some protection?. I think in all for what you pay for this guitar it is a good purchase though falls short of the professional axe so I may upgrade to a JS 100, if I can free up the dollars, or maybe something a little more extravagant ???.

A Decent Entry level/Budget Guitar. That is where the buck stops. I have been an avid Ibanez player for many years. Post Japan era, I have found many lower mid priced guitars to have declined in quality. So here's the scoop. The overall finish of the body, neck, headstock and fingerboard is very nice. The inlays are also strikingly appealing. However after just around an hour or so of playing I noticed the gold plating to be wearing where my palm rests. After this I also noticed some discoloration on many areas of the hardware which I thought to be tarnish. Upon trying to polish it up a bit I came to the conclusion that I was only begining to wear through the gold colored plating. ??? ... Wow!!! Another review mentioned something similar. I did get an awsome deal on this guitar so I'll keep it. I may eventually replace the hardware, or not. I am definitely going to have the frets polished to remove some very slight rough areas that affect bending notes. As another reviewer mentioned you might have to have some work done to get the guitar up to your own standards. The electronics are mediocre to say the least. It has mini pots which I find, tend wear and get scratchy much faster than the old style full size pots. Of course this remains to be seen. The pickups are okay but if I have this guitar for any period of time I will eventually replace them. I would have given 5 stars but inferior hardware is a minus and fretwork is another minus so 3 stars may be a little harsh but that is what I am rating. Consider it a high 3 or a 3.5 star rating.

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AS93 Electric Guitar:

Birthday present from my wife! Beautiful guitar that plays very well right out of the box. I took it to my luthier to set it up with lighter strings and lower the action a bit. In three days in his shop (he kept it for fun a few extra days) he got four offers to buy it from other customers who were just dazzled by the looks and sound. The joinery and finishing is superior to many far more expensive guitars. The sound is excellent.

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AS93 Electric Guitar:

This is an astounding deal. I have had several Gibsons including a ES 335 and the fit and finish of the AS93 is actually better. The Super 58 pickups sound great right out of the box and the fretwork is excellent. I may switch to a Gotoh bridge and stoptail at some point since I have used them for many years, but I will leave everything else as is. The matching Ibanez case was made by TKL and is good for the money with three latches, but if you need a true road worthy case you will want to spend more and upgrade. This model Ibanez guitar is simply a gem, check it out.

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AS93 Electric Guitar:

I'm more than a hobbyist, but do not consider myself a seasoned pro, by any means. I've played guitar for around 23 years and I always wanted to get a semi hollow-body guitar. I originally looked at the 335's ages ago, but never got around to buying one. I'm glad I didn't. After reading the reviews and listening to people play it on YouTube (look for Santi Guillén's video of this guitar), I knew this was the one I wanted.

I ordered the blue starburst version from GuitarCenter.com and once it arrived, I unpacked it at the store to inspect it (never bought a guitar online before so wanted it shipped to the store in case there was something wrong with it). Four employees stopped what they were doing to look at it and comment on how beautiful it is. The blue really is gorgeous.

I could tell the playability on this was fantastic from the moment I unwrapped it and started tuning it up. The action on it was perfect. I could probably have it professionally set, but I don't want to give it up long enough to do that, right now.

I do have a '52 Gibson hollow-body electric and a '96 mid-range Strat, but the Ibanez AS93 is definitely my favorite. It sounds incredible through a vintage tube amp, but should sound excellent in a solid state amp as well.

This was such a great buy and I can't recommend it enough.

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AS93 Electric Guitar:

If you're looking for a bargain ES-335, look no further. Very similar sounding to an Eastman T-386, but almost half the price. The quality received for this price is pretty unreal. In my opinion the the overall quality greatly surpassed that of the Epiphone Dot. The selling point for me, aside from the beautiful violin burst finish, was the Super 58's. They're everything that I could've wanted in a humbucker. I've found that this guitar is very versatile, handling everything from soft jazz to rock. And it's great for getting a bluesy jam sound too (Warren Haynes-esque). Great buy for a first semi-hollow.

        great build quality

        By Jazzcat

        from Northeast

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AS93 Electric Guitar:

Excellent build quality. High attention to detail such as interior gluing, paint, binding, flush mounted bridge, and level frets. The pickups are distinctive in that they are clear and articulate...less of a midrange tone than other pickups. There is full access to the neck with a rounded neck feel that conforms to most hand shapes and results in easier playing. String tension is light especially with 9 gauge strings. IMO it sounds worse with flatwound strings that seem to limit atriculation

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AS93 Electric Guitar:

I purchased this guitar as I wanted a Semi-hollow and wasn't really interested in spending a fortune. Prior I played some Gibson's, Epi's (Sheraton II) and this sweet lil thing. I can honestly say, the Ibanez won out. Don't get me wrong the ES-335 was nice, but for the dough, no thank you. My Ibanez will hold it's own against a higher priced model any day. The Super 58 Customs in here are so smooth I can't believe they put them in a guitar at this price point. Keep in mind that as this is a Maple guitar, it tends to be pretty bright. Dial your amp in a little darker and you are ready to go. I have gigged and recorded with this guitar and I can honestly say that it is PRO quality. Purchased mine in Blue Burst and the fit and finish are immaculate. Even cream binding around the F-Holes. If you are looking for a semi-hollow without the massive price tag for the name, go for the Ibanez. You can not go wrong with this guitar.

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AS93 Electric Guitar:

This is the first guitar I have purchased online, and I was skeptical. But it arrived in pristine condition, the quality of craftsmanship and attention to detail was more than a pleasant surprise. The setup was well above average; decent action, intonation, no buzz, etc. It sounds great, I am not disappointed. Although the Musician's Friend description says it comes with ACH pickups, the new AS93s come with the Super 58 Customs found on the John Scofield, Pat Metheny, and George Benson signature models (MF should update their product description). I'm very happy with this purchase from Musician's Friend (I charged it to my MF Platinum card and I have 18 months to pay with 0% interest, free shipping too!). The quality of this guitar is such that it could only increase in value in the years to come.

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AS93 Electric Guitar:

I bought this model guitar about ten years ago, when it was near their top of the line (the 103 was top), and the guitar was a few years old already judging by the serial number. The arch-top has aged beautifully, giving me a great tone that keeps getting better.

I do see a few differences with the newer models. Mine did not come with a pickguard (love that look), the knobs and some of the other hardware has changed, and it came with a hardshell case then. I think the aesthetics have come down a bit along with the price. The 'stage presence' just isn't the same, from what I see IMHO.

I can say my guitar delivers about 85-90% of the sound of a Gibson 335, for what was then about a third of the price. With the new changes, I can't say what the sound of the new model is, but it's certainly worth picking up and trying out. I thought about swapping out the pickups but everyone that's played it - including my guitar tech (who would make money swapping them out) told me I'd be crazy to. This guitar delivers.

In person, the blue looks more of a sea-green (very nice), unless it's under very bright lights (like concert lamps) where the blue comes out to play.

The neck - smooth as silk to play, and strong as a rock. I use 12-56 wound G strings (pure nickel) and the neck stays in standard tuning without any issues at all - I just needed a new nut put in to accomodate the larger strings. Once it's in tune it stays there. I once it hanging on my wall for two months while I played my strat and SG - tuning was spot on when I came back to it.

As far as music goes, this can play just about anything, but really shines in the blues/jazz area. I don't know how well it could could do hard metal, but it would be interesting to try. The neck is certainly fast enough.

If you can get your hands on one in a Guitar Center give it a try for a while and see how it holds up and looks in your hands. You may be surprised how much guitar you're getting.
