I bought my AS73 last year and have previously owned electric guitars in a variety of strat configurations. I was tired of the strat type guitar and wanted to try something new, so in my shopping around I looked at Epi Les Pauls and SGs, PRSs and Schecters, and Fender teles. These were all ok but I was looking for great. Then a Gretch 5122 caught my eye. The Gretch had a great sound - I loved that Bigsby! - but didn't feel quite right for me, so I decided to widen my search to include semi hollowbodys like the Ibanezx and the Gretch and the Epi Dot, and of them only the Ibanez AS73 sounded great AND felt great. A year after purchase I can say I'm not impressed with the tuners and the set up wasn't great - I had to adjust both pups to get them sounding optimal, but the guitar sound great, whether thru a modeling, a solid state or a tube amp. The action is awesome and its lightweight and very comfortable. It play dirty oh so well, and for a dual humbucker config, it plays clean quite nicely also! If I was to make only ONE change it would either be to put a better set of tuners on it, or somehow figure out how to put a Bigsby tremolo on it. Neither of these changes are critical. I think if someone is looking for a new guitar, these reviews are a good start but in the end you should really go to the store and experience each guitar one at a time (if possible thru the same amp on the same settings) to see if it feels and sounds right for you. For me, the Ibanez AS73 was a perfect match for sound, feel, and price.

This guitar is very comfortable and fun to play but it really needs better pickups. The sound is really flat and flavorless. Compare it to an Epiphone Sheraton and you will hear a big difference. It's too bad because the neck and fretboard are really comfortable. I've heard that it is a pain to replace pickups in a hollowbody guitar. I don't know if that's true but I wouldn't get this guitar and keep these pickups. The Epiphone Sheraton sounds much better and is worth the extra money or you could find one used that costs the same as a new Ibanez ArtCore. If you really want an Ibanez artcore, try out the AG75, the archtop model. It has a much better, juicier tone since it is a true hollow body.

Excellent Guitar

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AS73 Electric Guitar:

This is a very high quality guitar for the price. Everything about it feels like a much more expensive instrument. It sounds great and plays excellent as well. The only problem I am having with it is the G-string going out of tune rather frequently, but that can be fixed very easily so i'm not too concerned. That's the only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars. I will probably put some new pickups at some point, but i'm in no rush because the stock pups sound good. I still feel like I got a steal of a deal on this guitar, even though I paid full price for it. Last but not least, the transparent cherry finish looks incredible.

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AS73 Electric Guitar:

IF YOU WANT A GUITAR THAT MAKES BEAUTIFUL MUSIC THEN LET ME RECOMMEND THIS ONE--NOT ONLY IS IT EASY TO PLAY BUT EACH NOTE RINGS OUT, WHETHER YOU'RE A PICKER OR A STRUMMER... THIS CAN BE USED FOR ROCK MUSIC OR COUNTRY MUSIC...WHEN I TOOK IT OUT OF THE BOX IT WAS ALMOST IN TUNE--ONLY TOOK A COUPLE MINUTES TO HAVE IT TUNED AND PLAYING. I HAVE AN EXPENSIVE GUITAR THAT I BOUGHT IN THE MID 90'S AND PAID A BUNDLE FOR IT BUT THIS IBANEZ SOUNDS EVERY BIT AS GOOD IF NOT BETTER THAN THE RICK. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GUITAR FOR ANYONE WHO SINGS OR WRITES SONGS...AND THE FOLKS AT MUSICIAN'S FRIEND ARE VERY HELPFUL IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS....

Picked up one of these used and it plays great. Smooth jazz type tone, crunchy blues tone and harsh distorted metal tone as well. Fretboard plays very smooth, no problems with hardware what-so-ever. High quality axe at a great price.

The Best Budget Jazz Guitar on the Market

            By Ramon

            from Stockton, California

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AS73 Electric Guitar:

I want to start learning how to play in the jazz style, so I need a good semi-hollow electric guitar. The Ibanez AS73 has a nice, mellow tone and feels great to play. It definitely isn't comparable to a Gibson ES-335, but is a great starting point for players who aren't ready to spend thousands of dollars on a good jazz/blues guitar. Since I have received the instrument, all that I feel needs to be altered is the pickups, since they don't sound bright enough for my taste. The copy I received does need minor truss rod adjustments, but the factory work is otherwise excellent. I did not expect such great quality for a budget instrument.

I love this guitar! I wanted a Semi-Hollow Body for a while but couldn't afford a ES335. So, I bought an AS73 in white. The quality is great for the price and the tone is fantastic through my Blues Jr. I recently added a Bigsby B3 with a Towner Tension Bar. It is now a great guitar! Go try one out!

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AS73 Electric Guitar:

After 2 years of playing my AS73 for mostly jazz and blues, I have really developed an appreciation for how nice of an instrument it is. I own several solid-body guitars, but this is my only semi-hollow body. Although I have toyed with the thought of replacing the pickups, they really do sound nice with the proper amp settings. The neck feels great and the construction is solid with a really nice finish (I have it in sunburst). I noticed one reviewer who indicated that he is teased for it not staying in tune. I can say that short of practicing bends nonstop, mine stays solidly in tune for days at a time. I suspect cheap/worn strings may be the actual culprit rather than the guitar. Overall, it is an amazingly good value for the money and one I will be hanging on to for a long time.
