I see no need to pay four times the price of this bass (or more) for the same thing that is branded "Gibson." Of course the Gibson semi-hollow body basses are good, but realistically, what real world gigging bassist has the money to purchase one? This bass is a great alternative with tone and style to rival the big G. This bass and short scale nylon tapewound strings give THE old school R&B tone we all know and love. Regular flats will work just fine as well; there's just something about the nylon tapewounds on this bass for me... The shorter scale feels a little odd at first, but you get used to it quickly. It isn't awkward or cumbersome in the least, but almost feels like playing a guitar neck. This would be a good bass for guitar players who want to either experiment or outright switch to the bass guitar. The shape and character of this bass simply draw a crowd. People love the look of this bass on the stage, particularly the big fat shape and the F-holes. I've gotten the most comments on these than any other feature of the bass from the crowd. The tone with the stock roundwound strings is unique, with quite the booty and a slight "woof" in the midrange. I actually like this tone a lot! Stock pickups and passive tone control are just fine -- no need to change them. Good tuning machines. The bass does neck-dive a little when standing, but it isn't too bad. Simply handling the neck while playing seems to correct this; I didn't feel the need to "hold" the neck up. After having played this bass, I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a unique look and unique tone. You'll get both with this one.
This bass is a dream come true. the 30" scale is great for beginners and more experienced players alike. The tone is rich and beautiful. The only thing I can say is that I wish I would have found this a long time ago. The bottom line is this bass plays wonderfully, is priced too low for a bass of this quality, and has style to spare.
This bass is beyond words. The tone is great and the bass in itself is very light. The only main problem is when you get it, it needs to be a little tweaked but overall the bass is definitely worth the buck. Gorgeous beyond words.
I enjoy playing the Ibanez hollowbody electric bass because it has a big, thick sound when I need it for blues or classic rock songs. And, it also has a great accoustic sound for jazz or just playing with friends at the house. The shorter neck and tighter fret spacing is easier to play than my Fender jazz bass. I bought a hard-body case to protect my hollowbody. I felt it needed the extra protection from bumps and from heat/cold. It was one for an accoustic bass and fit the longer neck.
