The bound, all-maple full hollowbody provides tight resonance without feedback, perfect for that muted jazz tone and fully flexible for everything from alt rock to pounding punk. The mahogany set neck with bound rosewood fretboard is a delight to the digits. An ACH-ST humbucker at the neck and ACH-ST at the bridge provide a beefy, quiet signal with pronounced mids.

I like the looks of this guitar! Right price and a sound that appeals to me. However, much like many have written, the thing will not stay in tune. Floating bridge and terrible tuners. But,....I installed some quality tuning keys, turned one of the bridge points around, got it intonated, put a spot of glue under the brige. And now,.....mighty nice! Totally a good deal if you can do a little bit of work.
This is a very good value for the price. Some of my friends who are more experienced than me always want to pick up this guitar and play it when they visit. This guitar has deep mellow tones and can also scream if you want it to. It sounds great, plays great and looks great. Be advised, this gutar is not highly laquired. It has a natural wood finish. My one reservation is that it is always getting out of tune. I will probably have to replace the tuning keys to keep it in tune for any length of time.
I would have rated this guitar 5 stars if not for the tuners. To be blunt, the tuners are worse than what I have on my homemade Diddly Bow. The intonation is so far off that I will have to bring it to my local guitar shop for a proper set up and some nice Grover tuners. I hate to spend money for repairs on a brand new guitar but the closest Guitar Center to where I live is a 2 hour drive. Other then the tuners this guitar is a gem. Some may not like the looks, but I love the minimalist appearance. Although it is a little on the heavy side for a hollow body, it is super easy to play. Even though I am not happy with the tuners, I would definitely recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a hollow body
I recently played several Ibanez artcore guitars.... My favorate by far is the AFJ85.... But the AF55 shows some serious potential... apparently people had played with the bridge in the store i tryed it in making it almost unplayable... however I could tell that the neck was straight the tones were good and the bare bones model of the artcore series shows serious potential.... All maple body good pickups... All the other ones i have played since have been almost perfect No useless pick guard / finger rest... and a good look On my guitar I will probably add pickup covers and rewire it for dual shaft knobs as to keep the two knob miminal look But have functonality to blend the pickups as I like.... Overall a very nice entry level guitar to the Artcore series In My opinion the best two guitars are the AFJ85 because of the spruce top & AF55 due to its miminal look
