Overview

The first single-cutaway Artist in 30 years, the Ibanez ART2100 Artist guitar is an affordable, old-school-style solidbody with top-of-the-bill features. The contoured mahogany body has a mahogany set neck for excellent resonance. The Artcore ACH1-S and ACH2-S humbuckers filter out interference from electrical sources while using ceramic magnets to pump out all the crunch and sustain you'll need to rock the house. The Gibraltar III tailpiece lets you easily adjust each string for solid intonation. The short 24-2/3" scale makes note bending a breeze on the bound rosewood fretboard with 22 medium frets. The 12th fret has a special ART inlay for a modest touch of flair.

Case sold separately.

I purchased this guitar in November from my local GC. After playing this guitar for 3 months, I thought I would be able to write an unbiased review. The good: The guitar plays well. Right out of the box, the set up wasn't too bad. I thought the action was slightly high, but there was no issues with playing at all. The pick ups are pretty decent for stock. Tonal quality is good, and you can get a wide variety of sound from them. Hardware seems good also, minus the tuners. I have no "static" in the knobs, switches, or plug-in. The finish is very nice (I purchased the Transparent Cherry). The back of the body, neck, and head is all black. The bad: I started having tuning issues a few weeks after purchase. After about 20 min of playing, I would have to re-tune the guitar. After a little investigation, I found the 3rd string tuner was slipping. Ibanez states on their paperwork that come with the guitar that tuners are not covered in warranty. I replaced the tuners in about 20 minutes with Grover Midsized Rotomatics which were direct replacements. After about 10 weeks, the plastic stock nut broke off between the 6th string and the edge. This was in warranty, but Ibanez requires their customers to pay for insured shipping for repair. I don't live anywhere close to an authorized service center so.. I found a local and reputable Luthier who did a re-nut with bone for $27. The bone nut did improve what I thought was already a good tone. I might have voided the warranty, but oh well.. The only other issue I think is worth mentioning is that this guitar is neck heavy. I don't mind a heavier guitar, but the balance is a little off and is heavy in the neck. Not too much of a big deal, but if you stand and play, especially if you gig for a few hours, you might take this into consideration. In summation I do like the guitar. I feel that Ibanez could use a little better materials, even if this isn't a high end model. But the guitar is still a keeper and I plan on playing it for years to come.

I've had this guitar for nearly a year now, and it hasn't disappointed me yet. Its all mahogany so you know its going to have a great tone. The pickups aren't exactly high output, but they can handle plenty of gain.

The only con about this guitar, is that its not for low tunings. The guitar is around 24.75 scale length, like a Gibson. It has a very slinky feel to it out of the box. The lowest you'll be able to tune this guitar comfortably, is probably Drop C: C G C F A D with an 11-56 or maybe 12-56 gauge of strings. its definitely not for low/ baritone tunings. Don't go putting 13s on here or you'll screw up the neck. I learned that the hard way. Other than that this guitar is a great buy. ibanez makes the best "medium priced" guitars.

For the cheap price this is as good as it gets. I use this over all my other guitars and, I have many. It is not a LP but, It is very capable. Mine came right out of the box setup perfect. The case that I bought for it isn't so good. I will end up getting a better quality one for it. It is my favorite guitar! Thanks Musicians Friend.

sent wrong guitar!!!! not satisfied either, the picture they put up was of a ibanez art100 with the 1 fret marker on the 12th fret and a gibraltar bridge, what i received was totally different the only thing they got right was the color and the art100 part, but... STILL!!! they should have said "hey! this guitar is the old version!" but NO! they had no comment on it other than there were a few scratches on the back side (which there were none that i could see).the bridge is different and one of the inlays has a tiny hole next to it (flaw in manufacturing) THE STRINGS ARE RUSTY!!! usually the string on a new set! (not on this one!) im so furious that they would sent this out without saying anything about it being different!

The first time I put this guitar in my hands it was the one, and over 4 years later I play it every chance I get. I purchased the wine red model at my local music store. I must have played every guitar on display, I was wasting my time, the art100 was the one for me. I did my first review a year later, I wanted to put some miles on it before I made my judgement. I gave it 5 stars then and i'm giving it 5 stars now.

The art100 is a great guitar and is solid as a rock and as smooth as butter, and is the reason I decided to upgrade my art100. So with the help of the awesome people at musicians friend, I transformed my art from great to well , freaking awesome! I started with a set of Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded humbuckers. DiMarzio 500k push pull volume pots, and tone. I changed out the stock tuners for Grover Rotomatics. Let me tell you the sound and the sustain is unbelievable. It will hold it's own with the heavy weights. The art100 is a great guitar with the capability of excellence.

Big surprise!! Great guitar for the money!! Well done Ibanez!!!

          By Michael Torres

I have been read the reviews and was skeptical at first. I own many guitars was looking for another LP that I could drop some JH EMG pickups in. I can't say enough about this guitar! I was a little concerned about what people were saying about the neck since my hands are on the smaller side, but despite the neck being a little chunkier than my Les Paul, the contour of the back is very comfortable. The action was set reasonably low, straight from the factory. The stock pickups are decent, but I absolutely love the JH EMG pickups in this axe(note: pickup rings won't fit EMG because they are slightly smaller than stands 2.75"). The quality of the build can't be beat at this price point.

            My Go To Guitar

            By susan kelly

            from San Diego, CA

I have owned this guitar for a little over a year and a half and I still can't put this guitar down. Though I did replace the pickups with Seymour Duncan Hot Rods about a year ago (just to refine my personal sound) the pickups that came with this guitar are in my opinion untouchable at this price range. As far as this being considered a semi-beginner or low end intermediate, NO WAY. This guitar sounds and holds up great compared to much higher priced so called PRO guitars. If you are on the fence about this guitar, I recommend you go and play one at your local Guitar Center and compare it to a much higher priced guitar. I think you will be surprised at how well this sounds compared to the rest. And in this economy, the quality to price ratio is very important to a musicians wallet. Like I said in the subject line of this review, This guitar is my Go To guitar for studio or playing live.

            Awesome guitar, great alternative.

            By Derek M

            from Smithtown, N.Y

i have owned this guitar for 4 years, and i still love it! This is my 3rd guitar i have owned, and it makes for a great all around instruments. the pickups have a nice tone to them, deep and full (similar to a les paul) and it produces a great sound out of any amp, and it screams out of a tube amp. I have only had one problem with this guitar, just recently which was that a wire connecting the pickups to the 1/4" jack loosened up and snapped( i have no idea how this happend) so i brought it back to the guitar center and they fixed it quickly and efficently. this guitar is great right out of the box, but if your looking for a brighter sound or mabey just dont want to have a full stock item you can replace the pickups and then you can get a very wide range of tones. Pair this up with an OD pedal, and a marshall or orange amp and you have an awesome screaming metal guitar, or replace stock pickups with fender stlye ones, connect it to a blues driver and a fender amp and you have a sweet blues or classic guitar. any styles and any conditions, this guitar will hold up, and this is always gonna be go-to guitar. Great instrument for the price, and i highly reccomend this to any intermediate player looking for that modern heavy tone. buy this,(in transparent cherry, great finish by the way) you wont be upset!
