Always loved the Epi's and Gibsons. Just hated the weight and the necks. I grew up playing fenders so I'm a bit biased. Ibanez always has something I'd lie to have but it doesn't fit my style of playing. Believe it or not, Tele's fit me best. However, I could not help picking one up at Guitar Center Nashville and I almost can't pick my arsenal of tele's up anymore. This is a machine, not hacked piece of rotted river timber. I tried all of the "full" bodied semi hollows and full hollows (after my first 72 thinline, I can't go solid body again) and this felt stronger, better made, lighter, more manageable and the sound was sweeter to me than the epi's and Gibbys. Just got try it. Everything was set-up perfect so I didn't have to change a thing. I highly recommend this guitar for stage and recording. The price is probably the best thing about it. I thrive off of affordable and unique. I don't like high end anything. It's overrated to me. Get this, you shall not be disappointed. Thanks and rock on!

This is a guitar that asks for little and gives little in return. It simply will not stay in tune and the input jack loosens and if you do not retighten it constantly, the nut will fall off. If you get within a foot or so of your amp or are using heavy distortion you will get feedback. With that said, when it is in tune it sounds great and I love it. If you are willing to buy this guitar and some new tuning machines, go for it. However, if you wanted to buy this guitar and have it be everything you wanted right off the bat, I'm sorry but I think you should look into other brands.

This Guitar is AMAZING... simply put.

By Trevor Adams

from Arlington, TX

Comments about Ibanez AM73B Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar about a year and a half ago. The playability of this guitar is so great. The neck is thin and I havent had one problem with this one yet. I play this guitar more than I play any of the other 3 electric guitars in my collection. If you are looking for a guitar that will last you for a long time, and give you great tone... I highly suggest this one. I love it.

Tone is worth the $

By GuitarLover

from Gilbert,az

Comments about Ibanez AM73B Electric Guitar:

I already own 14 instruments (various bass and guitars) but no semi-hollow and always wanted to take the pludge but never really was that thrilled with others I tried for the price...until now. Ibanez has a winner here and the tones really are sweet. This is the only thing I have been playing lately. I'm a little used to a smaller neck but it brings a lot of character and upper frets are easy to access. The size is very comfortable and can play for hours without the heavy strain (I have minor arthritis and have no issues). For semi-hollows it's all about the tone ..and this is worth every penny. Only complaint is I wish there were a few color styles to choose from. Black is cool but kinda dull. Although I suspect the $ would go up with it the style options so it's not a big deal.

Great Sounds

By Alan McCormack

from San Diego, CA

Comments about Ibanez AM73B Electric Guitar:

I already own an Ibanez S520, but it was love at first strum with the AM73B. Like others, I didn't have a couple thousand bucks for a new guitar. For the money, this guitar sounds great. It throws out enough sound to practice in a quiet room without using an amplifier. As reviewers said, it has great tone and sustain. The issue of having to retune after a few minutes is not uncommon. I did, however, get a second hex nut for the output, tightening one against the other slightly, to prevent it from working loose easily.

Project guitar

By DON RAINVILLE

from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about Ibanez AM73B Electric Guitar:

Construction is OK but the hardware is cheap. If you want to spend the money after you buy it on new pick-ups, machines, and pots, buy it. One can spend as much time tuning it as they do actually playing it. If you are a beginner, you certainly will learn how to tune a guitar.

Nice semi-hollowbody for the money!

By Tom

from Methuen, ma

Comments about Ibanez AM73B Electric Guitar:

Just purchased the new tobacco flat finish yesterday as a project guitar. Beautiful guitar. I already replaced the knobs with Gibson speed knobs, look great. Purchased Seymour Duncan SH-1 '59 pickups for it too. Wasn't planning on upgrading the tuners, but this baby just will not stay in tune!!! Other than that, it's a great guitar for the money! Easy to adjust neck and action as well. It is made in China, but what isn't these days! Good quality overall for the price, I would certainly recommend this for a semi-hollow body guitar.

You Get What You Pay For

By Jake Beck

from Elmira, NY

Comments about Ibanez AM73B Electric Guitar:

For the price, this is a great guitar. I absolutely LOVE it-when it's in tune. However, it comes out of tune very quickly. I think I will just buy some new tuning machines and hope that this solves the problem. With that said, this guitar sounds, looks, and feels awesome! Just be prepared to either buy new tuning pegs, or be tuning after every couple of songs.

Comments about Ibanez AM73B Electric Guitar:

I purchased the Ibanez AM73B several months ago at the local Guitar Center. As a professional musician (since 1965) I have been playing electric, solid body Fender guitars, Acoustic guitars, and (For the last 20 years) Ovation Acoustic/Electric guitars. I wanted to add a semi-hollow body electric guitar to my line up. After much research I decided on the AM73B, based on sound, playability, looks, and price. Although it is the least expensive guitar I own, it presents a fast neck, the warmest tones, and long sustains (the 1st day I owned it I replaced the factory strings with D'Addario XL115-3D, 11's) this mellowed the sound and got rid of the twang. This is my 1st and only Ibanez guitar and I am extremely pleased with it......KEEP ON ROCKIN' Y'ALL...

Comments about Ibanez AM73B Electric Guitar:

I had seen some of the comparable priced Epi 339's liked the natural but neck was a bit wide for me and a little too pretty. The GC rep brought several ove for me to try, all nice & shiney. Brought over the 73B tobacco and that was it. Kind of dull and unassuming looking, loved it. played it as best as I could, recovering from shoulder surgery and not playing for a long time. Looks real nice to my Gibson 1968 mahoganny LG0. Been practicing a lot and can get something out that sounds like a song. It always seemed to go sharp for me for some reason. Before the 15 day/ 21day return period was over took it back to Charleston store. Different store than I bought it at. They checked it over, and said their tech would look it over & gave me another. Love it. Good results on their return period. Put Elixer Nano super lights on it, sounds great as it can for what I put into it.

Comments about Ibanez AM73B Electric Guitar:

I got the AM73B about 3 weeks ago and I couldn't be more satisfied.I"ve been playing since 1958 and have been playing mostly accoustic country blues including slide guitar. I haven't been able to play for 20 years due to a shoulder injuries to both shoulders as I couldn't wrap my right arm over my Guild D40 N.T. without a whole lot of pain.Had 3 surgeries and they still didn't help,so I started looking for an alternative guitar and saw on the Guitar Center website the Ibanez AM73B which is a little smaller than a traditional semi-hollow body.I went to the store an it was love at first feel.I got the Tobacco one and everyone says what a beautiful guitar. Not heavy, nice action sounds great and it does stay in tune and is well made even though it's made in (yuck) China. So now I'm playing electric blues after dusting off my 1965 Fender Twin.God I really missed playing.Even if you have no health issues I Highly recommend this guitar

    I love this guitar!

    By JOHN HARDIN

    from Massachusetts

Comments about Ibanez AM73B Electric Guitar:

I have wanted a semi hollow for a while and tried many trying to decide which was the best bang for the buck. Once I tried the AM73, I was sold. Before this, my top choice had been an AS73. I tried many others, an Epiphone Dot, Washburn OE30, Hagstrom Viking II, Peavey JF2, and a Samick RL2. The combination of the great tone, superb finish and neck, and the small size body made it an easy choice. The only other I considered in its class was a Schecter TSH, which was great, but different, and also 200 dollars more. If you are considering a semi hollow, but don't have a huge amount of dough to spend, definitely do not make a decision until you try this guitar.

I like the woody tone but a little dull sound on the high 5 and 6 string, setup is okay.. Replaced the strings with an $8 Gibson VR10 Vintage Reissue, same. Replaced the the Bridge and Neck Pickups with GFS Alnico II 1959 Vintage winding Pro Series like $35 each.... LORD HAVE MERCY!!! So sensitive, you rock, you jazz, you blues, you country. I haven't looked back to my American Les Paul and Strat ever since I modified this.... I call it Chinese guitar.

        One Great Guitar

        By john

Comments about Ibanez AM73B Electric Guitar:

Ibanez did a great job with this one. I originally was looking at the Artcore AM75. After more research and thought I came accross The Ibanez AM73B. The Price was great. But was worried i wouldnt like it due to none were in stock to try before i bought. I took a leap of faith and ordered it in Tobacco flat color. Trust me when i say that the picture does not give this guitar its just dues. When i got it home and opened the box i was amazed. The tobacco flat color with with trim was fantastic. Very very beautiful guitar. I noticed that the neck was alittle smaller then the AM75 and that was alot better for me. I also liked the smaller size and weight. Its very light. It sounds as good as it looks. I'm relearning the guitar after 30 years and wanted a cheap guitar with great sound. This was perfect. I played a Gibson Les Paul standard when i was younger. I'm very happy and would recomend this to anyone starting out. Also i bought the Am100c guitar case for it which fit perfect.

        Love this guitar

        By chris fernandez

        from athens, tennessee

Comments about Ibanez AM73B Electric Guitar:

I wasn't planning on buying a new guitar when I walked in to guitar center recently, but a used artcore grabbed my attention. I played it and really enjoyed it but it was a bit expensive compared to the new ones. So I picked this one up ( tobacco finish) and immediately fell in love. played like butter and the tones were so sweet and the sustain was incredible. The finish was very nice, and while it wasn't the prettiest guitar, it had a charm to it. I played some epiphones and some other model artcores, but this one felt the best in my hands and the neck wasn't too thick ( I own a strat and a tele, I'm not used to very thick necks) The guy helping me out told me i could put some chrome pickup covers on and i could buy them at the accessories department. They were about 11 dollars i think, and they make a world of difference. If you're looking for an affordable semi hollow body, this is the way to go. you won't be disappointed at this price point.

        My new favorite guitar!

        By Joey Barnes

        from Independence Missouri

Comments about Ibanez AM73B Electric Guitar:

Ok so I've been playing guitar for about 5 years and I had 3 guitars and this made my fourth. I have had this guitar for 5 months and love it. This stays in tune very well and has a great tone. I have the same thing as no hum with these pickups and they are very crisp. I played a few sets at my church with it and I have to say it definitely holds its own weather you need a lot of highs, or need more bass to it, or even something in between, this guitar can do it without a problem.

Comments about Ibanez AM73B Electric Guitar:

I got one from the GC in Mercer St at downtown Seattle.

I think the guitar looks absolutely gorgeous. The finish is amazing and the construction is really balanced. The fretboard was smooth and the access on upper frets was also pretty good.

For an archtop its extremely ergonomic. I am not a big guy, so all the other archtop thinline semi acoustics seemed a little heavy and awkward to hold. Not this one, it fits right in. Its also light for an archtop (but not strat level light).

The tone is decent, and the stock pickups were slightly above average. Its not as warm as a epiphone dot, but can hold blues level crunch settings better than the dot. It has a warmer tone than most solid body guitars I have played.

There were some issue off the bat. The action was ridiculously low, and a couple of frets were uneven. I mitigated it by raising the action, but its not perfect. The nut was crazy sticky and the guitar could not stay in tune. I got lighter gauges, put some graphite on the nut slots, which solved the problem completely.

The intonation off the bat was dead on (except a couple of notes on the uneven frets at the top). I think its acceptable, its like 2 Hz off.
