Great Bang for the Buck

By AvalonJazz

from Milwaukie, OR

Comments about Ibanez AK95D Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I am quite pleased with the AK95 I recently received. Lots of "bang for the buck" here. While you could get a higher end instrument, it would cost you a whole lot more and this Ibanez does everything I need it to do. I like the nice detail work, it's a very pretty guitar to have on a stand where folks can see it. The sound is nice and jazzy, but I'm sure with the right electronics you could make it rock. The guitar I received had the wood bridge, not the metal one shown. However, after playing it I decided I like the warmer sound of the wood bridge. You might want to clarify this issue when ordering. I had a tech. guy do some very minor set up because of a slight fret buzz. After a month of playing I'm comfortable with this instrument and have no regrets.

Spend More and Waste $$

By 1TuffCustomer

Comments about Ibanez AK95D Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

This is the first review I've ever written about a guitar, since I generally find user reviews bloated with the afterglow of the near-sexual experience of attaining a fantasy; the love wears off in time. First, understand that the product description is wrong about a most important feature of this guitar: THE TOP IS SPRUCE (not maple, as advertised here). If I need to explain the tonal difference to you, perhaps you shouldn't even consider this or any hollowbody. Painfully honest to a fault, here goes: I'm peeved that the G string tuner seems to have two settings: out-of-tune sharp or out-of-tune flat. This is the 3rd Ibby I've owned with this problem so I spend a LOT more time tweaking the G string than I'd like...even with nut-lube ointment, it persists. This makes wwapping the nut for a bone or graphite one a serious consideration. With Grover tuners and a floating Tune-O-Matic bridge, neither of these is the source of the problem. The sheer craftsmanship of the guitar and its components permit me to overlook this flaw. And despite the urge to swap cermanic p/ups for alnico, honestly, the ones in this guitar are perfectly suited for a JAZZ style (which guitars of this structure were originally intended--think of the original jazz virtuoso Charlie Christian here). I don't consider myself either interested enough or competent enough to comment on metal or C-W styles (although a big fan of Chet Atkins). Finally, and I really can't stress this enough, because I am a VERY VERY demanding guitar shopper, unless you don't mind going through the guitar-shopping drill every year or so, you can trust me here: if you want a jazz sound and a top-quality instrument for a DECENT price, you can stop right here. To be fair and objective, I can also strongly recommend the Epiphone ES175 reissue with alnico pickups; I simply prefer the tone of the Ibby AK95. At least the Epi doesn't have the G-string issue. (So sue me: I own both.) That's it. My first and probably last review, but I had to say my piece, because the AK95 has earned my respect and deserves praise.

I've Got the Dark Honey Sunburst

By Diego Play-Doh

from Laurel, Maryland

Comments about Ibanez AK95D Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

If you're considering moving from heavy rock & metal (we all get too old to pull that off), then this guitar would be a great choice for moving into another genre: jazz. It's light, acoustically pleasing, beautiful to the eye, and the neck is a joy to play. To my disbelief, I don't get much feedback. It feels downright tight, and the string tension and low action make 1/32nd note scales a breeze. I'm not that virtuosic, but my playing has improved because of this guit's quality--I'm dead serious about this. I strongly recommend replacing the factory-installed d'Addarios (roundwound) with either d'Addario flatwound 12-56, or with S-I-T "Jazz Light." Its tone is beautiful amped into my Tech21 Trademark 60. What great jazz vibe with this duo!

Excellent sound for the price

By Steve Carter

from Palm Coast, FL

Comments about Ibanez AK95D Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

If your looking for a good hollow body for a great price, this is the guitar for you. I had the local dealer go over the setup and the sound is very impressive. There was some feedback, as hollow bodies may be inclined to do, but that easily remedied by changes in sound reinforcement. The color was darker than in the picture, but still excellent. The spruce top and wooden bridge make this one stand out among others in it's price class.

Jazz heaven

By Rob

from Chula Vista, CA

Comments about Ibanez AK95D Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I'm really impressed with the Ibanez Artcore line. The only thing my AK needed was fret polishing, flat wounds and a setup. I know it's popular to change out the pickups but I'm liking them so they stay for now. This guitar looks stunning in the Dark Violin and plays like a dream. These are a steal at $550 and I got 15% off that!

Delicious!!!

By Doug Shaw

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Ibanez AK95D Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

The AK95D has a delicious look and sound. I did need to give it a faster setup for my taste, but an amazing instrument. The pictures from Ibanez do not do this guitar justice ? much more beautiful in the flesh.
