The guitar I've always wanted

By Zack

from Frisco, TX

Comments about Ibanez AG86 Artcore Semi Hollowbody:

It's been 8 years since I've picked up a guitar. When I picked this one up, though, it was just like old times. It's a very smooth guitar, light weight, beautiful to look at and creates an awesome sound playing when it either like an acoustic or plugging it into an amp. The neck is well designed, and there's very little buzzing - even as I get back into the swing of playing. And, it keeps its tune for a lot longer than the guitars I've had in the past. Now that I'm starting over, I think this time I did it right with this guitar.

Comments about Ibanez AG86 Artcore Semi Hollowbody:

O.k heres the scoop about this guitar. First of all when you get it your honestly blown away but give it a couple moths and you will start noticing why this is such a good price. After a while the strings start buzzing if you either don't have a humidifier, don't keep it in a room temperature area, and if you change the strings alot or not enough. Over all it's a very high maintenence guitar. The tuner heads also pick up ALOT of vibration. The fret board is okay but not great. Once you get past the 12th fret your not makin the notes clear anymore. If your a beginer guitarist this is alright but if you have been an experienced player and have been used to high end guitars, i would suggest something different.

Comments about Ibanez AG86 Artcore Semi Hollowbody:

This guitar is definitely eye-candy. The bubinga wood is gorgeous, the pickguard matches the finish and the binding is flawless. This guitar has a wonderfully slim, fast neck. A true hollow body it is sweet and rich in tone. Real abolone and mother of pearl fret and tailpiece inlays. I play this guitar everyday. It has become my favorite.

Oh My God!

Comments about Ibanez AG86 Artcore Semi Hollowbody:

I had been away from playing my guitar on a regular basis and when I started up again I wanted to play the blues. I bought a few books and dvd?s and started playing. I love singing the blues so I thought it would appropriate to learn how to play too. I began my journey on a regular electric guitar and acoustic guitars, but it just didn?t feel right. OK that?s not totally true, I just needed an excuse to buy another guitar. I think this guitar is the most beautiful guitar I?ve ever purchased. It?s absolutely gorgeous. It plays very nice and I like that it?s a short scale. It?s also a small body yet kinda heavy. I have played this guitar every day since I got it!!

GB10 at a fraction of the price

By Cool Daddy

Comments about Ibanez AG86 Artcore Semi Hollowbody:

Wish you could afford a GB10? Wish no longer. The AG series of artcore guitars are worthy of comparison to their big brother; none more so than the AG86. Built for speed and a rich jazz tone, this guitar was ready to play right out of the box - no set up necessary. The action was perfect all the way through the 22nd fret. It holds a tune, the fretboard is lightning fast, and the pickups are sharp and bright. The George Benson body style is smaller than most jazz boxes and is very comfortable. The AG86 is solidly built. This guitar FEELS right. The bubinga wood body sustains. This guitar does not ring acoustically like some of the spruce top artcore models (AK86), but this is not a "big box" jazz guitar, which why I bought it. Perhaps the best feature about this guitar (other than the price) is that it is versatile. Jazz, rock, blues - this hollowbody has a deep, rich clean tone, but also does well with effects. I play through a Korg PX4 effects box, and I've yet to experience feedback while playing in all types of distortion. How many hollowbodies can you say that about? The bubinga wood pattern and glossy transparent finish on this guitar combine for an absolutely stunning appearance; and are the main reason this model is more expensive than it's little brother, the AG75. The AG86 is RED, and I mean FIRE ENGINE RED; though it may appear closer to a violin color online. The inlays, chrome hardware and fancy tailpiece are the finishing touches on a guitar that looks like it costs thousands, not hundreds. I spent years looking for an affordable guitar that came close to the feel, looks and tone of the GB10. I finally found one. Nice job Ibanez.

The awesome AG86

Comments about Ibanez AG86 Artcore Semi Hollowbody:

I have had an AG86 for almost a year now. I am by no means a good or experienced guitarist but this guitar feels much better than any other I have tried. The looks are beautiful. Don't bother with photos, go to a music shop and see one, it's worth the trip before you even play it. The tone is lovely, I love jazz like Peter White, George Benson and Chris Standring. This is just right for that kind of thing. This is the best guitar that can be bought in this price range, I know, I looked for ages before buying. Go and play one in a music store and I bet you buy it. You won't be able to resist. I would confidently buy an Ibanez guitar again based on this model alone. I play this every day because it is a joy to do so, it makes learning a pleasure not a chore. It also stays in tune for a long time. Top marks to Ibanez for this guitar. In case you haven't guessed I am a big fan.

Your everything guitar

Comments about Ibanez AG86 Artcore Semi Hollowbody:

This is a rad guitar. Easy to play, sounds good. I took out the stock pick ups and replaced them with a Dimarzio breed bidge pick up and a Dimarzio EVO in the neck. Replaced the strings with D'Addario flat wound 10's. This guitar is about as jazzy as you can get now. It has a great balance of crunch and clean running it through a 100 watt mesa head cranked into a THD attenuator into a new Modern/Vintage that is sitting on top of an Ibanez Thermion. No need for any pedals here. This guitar is also very beautiful looking, it's well worth the money.

Beautiful Guitar, Average Craftsmanship

By SaxoFunk

Comments about Ibanez AG86 Artcore Semi Hollowbody:

I went to Guitar Center looking for an AG95 and could only find this AG86. I wan't too dismayed as I liked the bright red bubinga and the nickel hardware (the primary differences). It was on clearance, so I got it. In the store I noticed some fret buzzing going on. I attributed this to the 9s that the store had strung it with. I strung it up with some flat-wound 11s and raised the adjustable bridge a bit. This helped, but brought my attention to a high spot in the neck at the joint (14th-16th frets) - a problem normally associated with a bolt neck. It took about a 1/4 turn loose on the truss rod to relieve the hump but after I was able to lower the bridge back down a tad. On top of this I find the pickups to be on the quiet side, the bridge pickup isn't very loud. I'm holding out for the looks... All in all, if you're after looks, this axe has got 'em (bubinga, Abalone and Pearl inlays, binding throughout), but expect to pay for a setup, or do one yourself.

Rockin Ronk Play, Hear, Believe

Comments about Ibanez AG86 Artcore Semi Hollowbody:

I just recently bought a Ibanez AG86 and it is great. Playing this guitar is a joy, from the thin fast neck and beautiful African wood, the humbuckers offer a great sound. I looked at Gretch and Epiphone played them all the AG86 Ibanez sounded and played as well if not better. When you plug it in you will be amazed, you would think you are hearing a high end unit. I plug into a Fender amp and wow! I also own a 12 string acustic AEF18/12 electric Ibanez, and they are great. For the value , quality, and workmanship can't be beat. I recommend the AG86 Artcore Ibanez, buy one and you won't be disappointed.

A real beauty

Comments about Ibanez AG86 Artcore Semi Hollowbody:

One of the most beautiful instruments you'll find, matched with a wonderful tone. A great combination. I did have to spend a couple of hours on setup, but it was time well spent. The rewards were effortless play and outstanding sound quality. I believe production has stopped on this model, so if you want a beautiful guitar at a decent price, jump on this one.
