Just the other day I went to a music shop to get a new distortion pedal. I was previously using a cheap one from washburn. From what I saw on the internet, I decided to plug in the Ibanez Ts9, Ibanez ts808, and the MXR drive III. The TS9 gave a 25% more punch when all the gain and drive was up, but highly compressed/muffled the tone. The MXR kept cutting in and out, and lacked tone. The Ts808 gave about 45% more gain to the tone, but generated a ton of hiss to the speakers. I told the guy at the shop the issues at hand, and he pulled out this pedal. I dialed in a good tone and wow, this thing TOTALLY dominated the gain levels. With the mid control, you WILL NOT SCOOP YOUR MIDS! It essentially takes the mid range and sets it between 4-12, then you control from there. It will either boost them or keep them at 25% of what your amp can do. If you're a fan of really high gain (Periphery, Between The Buried and Me, As Blood Runs Black, etc.) DEFINITELY get this pedal. It will not dissapoint.

I pre-ordered this back in February based both on the clips Ibanez had posted online and the buzz from trade shows, expecting this to sound at least somewhat like the demos which showed a flexible pedal that could do mid- to high-gain sounds straddling the line between an overdrive and a distortion. Unfortunately, this is not an apt description of the pedal. Instead, the JD-9 sounds like what I feared it would be essentially a warmed-over Tube Screamer with a little bit higher gain and a mid control (which is its one saving grace). It is a decent-sounding pedal for what it is, but is certainly not the absolute revelation that Ibanez's video demos promise.
Moreover, side-by-side with several other pedals I own (T-Rex DGTM, Option 5 Destination Overdrive II, Barber Tone Pump, among others), there's no comparison every single overdrive pedal I own or have tried seems better to me, both in terms of tone and the price-to-quality ratio. I have no doubt that there are those who would feel differently, but this pedal just didn't do it for me.
This isn't a case of bad equipment making a great pedal sound mediocre I run a Gibson LP Jr. into a British-made Orange AD-15, and my amp loves pedals from boosts to distortions. Instead, it seems this is a case of a mediocre pedal that Ibanez undoubtedly used creative audio editing to turn into something else for their videos.
My advice if you think a Tube Screamer with a mid knob sounds like something you're looking for, then this will do the job. Do not think that this will sound like the demos online it doesn't.

Comments about Ibanez 9 Series JD9 Jet Driver Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I would definitely recommend this pedal to anyone needing a good, solid, rock overdrive sound. It is very responsive, and cleans up well when rolling off the volume or tone knobs on your guitar. It's my go-to overdrive pedal for playing rock music. Two things to note: it is too heavy for blues, and not heavy enough for metal. Keep that in mind for anyone looking for those tones. Other than that, I can't recommend this enough!

Comments about Ibanez 9 Series JD9 Jet Driver Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I like the distortion tones I get from it. I feel for what I paid I got an excellent pedal. I gave it only four stars because it generates more electrical noise than my Maxon SD9. I rate it as a great pedal overall.

Comments about Ibanez 9 Series JD9 Jet Driver Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

The Ibanez Jet Driver is a well built quality guitar pedal that is perfect for playing 1970's Heavy Metal coping sounds from early Judas Priest, Scorpions, UFO, Montrose, and Budgie. This pedal is clear, articulate, loud, and has a very authentic tone. I play Gibson guitars so I do not know how it would sound with single coil pickups. The pedal sounds really, really good with my Les Paul's and SG's. I tried out all the Ibanez and Maxon Tube Screamer pedals and found the Jet Driver was the best sounding out of all of them to me.

Comments about Ibanez 9 Series JD9 Jet Driver Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

Picked up this pedal on a whim about a month ago. I tried it out in the store because I'd never seen this model Ibanez before. VERY smooth overdrive, basically like a ts9 on steroids, except it's also much louder!
I love that the pedal has a mid control on it - makes it extra versatile!
It's extremely sturdy, and not bad to look at on the pedalboard!

My only complaint is that it makes a loud noise when activated, as if there's something loose or the input/output screws are loose. I've read other reviews that have said the same thing. It's not that big a deal playing with a band because you won't hear it over the noise unless you've got a LOT of delay or something like that to make the noise worse.

I'd definitely recommend it to players of all styles that are looking for a very versatile overdrive!

        This will blow your mind.

        By Jerad Moffitt

        from Marshall, Ar

Comments about Ibanez 9 Series JD9 Jet Driver Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

Let me first start off by saying I am a overdrive/crunch/distortion freak! I play a Marshall MA50 Half stack with a les paul mainly. I am so incredibly picky when it comes to my tone. I have a tube screamer ts808 clone, a fulltone ocd (which I love) and for my really heavy sounds I have a Ibanez Tube King tk999ht (which will blow your mind for heavy distortion and even metal. So to give a example of how amazing this pedal is....If I had to leave all 15 of my pedals on my board at home for my next show except one I would choose the jet driver. It really is a jack of all trades. You can dial in the tone and mids and pull back the drive to really get the classic tube screamer overdrive that really just saturates each note on the guitar with a creamy feel. Then for a great crunchy rhythm tone set your tone and mids at about 1o'clock and the drive at about 10o'clock and this thing completely blows your mind on how amazing it sounds. Then for a heavy rock riff of just heavy rhythms for your more alternative feel just increase your drive. This pedal even does metal players justice just by dialing in the tone knob, cranking the drive and volume knob and scooping the mids. I will say, the mid control really makes all the difference with this pedal. Coming from a tone freak,,,,I have finally been satisfied! Don't hesitate and get it. Btw, it sounds great with my ts808 boosting in front of it.

        By Zachary Markley

Comments about Ibanez 9 Series JD9 Jet Driver Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

This box is a TS9 with a little more gain, which was just what i wanted to cover what my MXR GTO OD couldn't. But don't get me wrong, this is a versatile pedal. I compared it next to the fulltone plimsoul, and the JD9 in my opinion held its town for half the price. Great product just wish it was made in the Great USA

Great OD plus a solid state saver.

Comments about Ibanez 9 Series JD9 Jet Driver Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I went to Guitar Center and I tested this pedal on the Marshall Class5. I tested it because I'm getting the Class5 for Christmas.(The class5 will be my first tube amp.) This pedal sounded so good on it. You could really sculpt your tone with this badboy. So, on black friday, I bought it. When I got home, I could not resist trying it on my set up. My set up is a Boss ME-70 and a Steve Vai Bad Horsie 2 wah ran through some speakers when I'm home and through a Line 6 spider IV. I could not believe the tone I was getting out of solid state! For me, solid state distortion sounds cloudy. This pedal made it sound so clear. I don't know how it's done! I give this 5 stars for me BUT it doesn't have tons of gain. It has more than normal overdrive pedal but not as much as a distortion pedal like a DS-1. Because of the MID and TONE controls, you can get modern metal tones but not at the same amont of distortion from the pedal alone. But with a little bit of distortion on an amp, it will definitely be enough distortion.
