The Tone-Lok Series AP7 Analog Phaser Pedal from Ibanez has a pure analog circuit producing very warm, lush vintage phase tones. Speed, depth, and feedback control allow you to dial in a wide range of tones. The 3-way switchable phase circuit allows you to select 4-, 6-, or 8-stage phasing. When switched to 4-stage phasing, the effect pedal recreates the sounds of a vintage phaser. When switched to 8-stage phasing, the guitar pedal produces aggressive and deep phasing characteristics.
On the outside, Tone-Lok effects are equipped with the Ibanez exclusive "set and forget" Push-Lok rotary pots. Push the knobs down and your tone settings lock securely inside the caseāno more lost settings or broken knobs.
On the inside, Tone-Lok pedals feature hi-fidelity components carefully tweaked with the constant input from a new generation of Ibanez players. And all this great stuff comes encased in cool looking, road-tough metal boxes at prices the working player can afford.

Noise: The pedal is not as noisy as other phasers. Only on high feedback settings will you hear the typical swishing. Also, the bypass is buffered, but the buffer is very good -- one of the best I've heard, and I'm a true-bypass snob.
Circuitry: Per my contact with Ibanez, the phase-shifting effect is generated by an OTA. Yet it works well with my Strats equipped with vintage-style single coils, not too bright or harsh. At extreme settings, the peaks produce some light distortion, but I prefer that because it sounds more vintage.
Controls: Past 50 percent up, the Speed control creates an interesting little beat (in time with the LFO, but it's clearly the irregular sine wave being contorted, not clock noise); personally, I think this makes the faster speeds more interesting, kind of like a rotary speaker spinning. The Depth determines how far the phase is shifted from the center frequency, not the mix level, like in many other phasers; this is useful for taming extreme settings. The Feedback control sounds like the usual resonance on the negative side, while the positive side yields vibrato in lower settings and boosted, intense phasing in higher settings. All three of the Stage settings are very much like what you'd expect a 4-, 6-, or 8-stage phaser to be.
Quality: Other than the knobs feeling a little flimsy, the pedal has no issues. It powers up well, remains relatively quiet through a clean amp, and clicks on and off with no noise.
My friend has a used model of this pedal he sold to me. It's a useful beginner pedal, but its breadth is limited. If you are looking just to start adding a phaser to your board, go ahead, but the more experienced players may want to look into something more high end. 4 stars.
If you're like me, you checked out this phaser and asked yourself, "How good can this cheap thing be?" Well, I own one now and it sounds great! I also tried a few expensive boutique models and found their sound quality to lack that classic '70s vibe, but this ugly grey box conjures up memories of my favorite albums drenched in undulating and swirling guitar scapes, such as The Rolling Stones' "Some Girls" and The Clash's "London Calling." Plus, this pedal can do more than you expect, thanks to some quirks lurking in its deceptively simple controls, including vibrato and rotary speaker. Go for it with no fear!
