The TS9DX is a very nice pedal stock. I had Aramat modify mine for less than $30, and now it's VERY very nice. As with most Tube Screamer-type pedals in excels when placed in front of a decent tube amp. The extra modes make it a bit more versatile, although it wouldn't be my first choice for ultra-heavy distortion. Used properly it has a sweet, singing tone, with just enough "growl." I really wish it was true bypass, and this accounts for the 3.5 rating for features (it also has only a single tone control, although this is only a drawback to some people)
If you are looking for a overdrive pedal that can give you a excellent tone. This is it. It's one of the best pedals i've ever used. The best feature is the extra knob that doesn't come with the ts9. It can give you that exact sound that you want from a tube amp.
Another great overdrive from IBANEZ. I put this side-by-side with a TS808 and played with them for about an hour. Both are great but the TS808 was more than I wanted to spend. The TS9DX is a credible substitute for a lot less money. Your board won't have the same level of "cool" but you won't be disappointed. If you want crunch, just crank up the Drive knob. If you want the warmth of tube overdrive, dial it back a bit. It makes a Strat + '65 Deluxe Reverb sound even more awesome. Use it with a Les Paul and get a big fat, ballsy sound.
