Since 1987, musicians all over the world have come to know the playing comfort and unique sound of the Ibanez SR series bass. With 3-band EQ and its newly developed Mid-Frequency Select switch, the Ibanez SR500 bass can produce any sound you require.
The SR500 bass starts with a balanced, contoured mahogany body that's comfortable and resonates well for strong lows and low mids.
The SR500's sleek and strong 5-piece SR4 jatoba/bubinga neck is easy to play with just the right width and radius. The smooth curve and beveled styling of the neck joint will also be appreciated when reaching for high notes.
The SR500 features an easy-access 9V battery box, powering a Bartonlini® MK1 3-band EQ. The 2 Bartolini® MK1 pickups are split-coil designs that provide a very wide frequency range and enhanced definition for maximum accuracy. The neck and bridge pickups have equal response, like traditional single-coils, but without the hum and noise.

Was in GC checking out PA cabinets when I saw this beautiful bass from across the room and was drawn to walk over and pick it up.
First off, it is extremely light. Lighter than any other bass I have tried to be honest.
Secondly, before even plugging it in, I couldn't believe how responsive it was. The action is set for slap heaven, the neck strong and thin and fast, and everything is very bright.
The electronics were the icing. Incredible variety of sound available with the Bartolinis with rich harmonics and nice rounded fat lows and clear punchy mids. Can really growl when cranked as well.
Have not put it down for even one day since I brought it home.
Proud owner since Oct. 2010 and it's just now appearing on the GC website. Was told it is a special GC exclusive from Ibanez.
Made in Indonesia. Highly recommended.
How's that for a Valentine's love story?!
This is my 6th Ibanez Soundgear bass. I also still own 3 others and these basses just keep getting better with time. Each model Ibanez upgrades little things here and there to make these basses even better and they do it while keeping the price relatively low and reasonable. With this model, a few additions added over previous models are the mid selector switch which adds an entirely new dynamic to the bass, an easy to access 9 volt battery compartment whereas on other models you had to remove the back plate with several screws to get to the battery and a truss rod cover that has an access cover that simply slides open to access the truss rod where again, on previous models, you had to remove the cover by removing screws.
As far as quality goes, this bass is top notch. I played other basses that were more expensive that had less quality. As far as sound goes, this bass sounds amazing while at the same time, offers a very balanced body that has no neck dive and it the lightest bass I have ever owned or played. Ibanez really did a lot of wonderful things in making this bass and have their work cut out to top this model. I opted for the Poplar Burl Brown Burst Flat SR 500 over the Brown Mahogany. Looks wise, the PBBBF looks one hundred times better in my opinion but both basses do sound the same so if looks don't matter to you, either bass you choose will sound good and have all of the features mentioned.
