Premium quality without paying a premium.

This RG Premium electric guitar, the RG920QMZ, stands astride quality and affordability with a foot (bout?) planted firmly in each camp by providing a combination of moderate price, superior quality, pro features, and excellent feel and finish. The RG Premium has an American basswood center and a quilted maple top while the Wizard Premium neck is given the Premium fret edge treatment for a fast, smooth feel. USA-made DiMarzio/Ibanez humbuckers provide volcanic toneage worthy of Krakatoa and Vesuvius. The Edge Zero II bridge with the ZPS3Fe spring system returns you to "zero" — center point — after each use of the tremolo arm that allows radical tremolo effects with flawless tuning accuracy.

Basswood body
Basswood is a comparatively lightweight wood, which makes it very comfortable for extended playing. With a good balance of highs and lows, basswood is right in between alder and mahogany in sound character.

  • Great guitar for metal or heavy music

As reviewed by JASON LUND on 9/16/2013

Ok, this review is only for playing metal or other heavy music. I can't imagine anyone would look at this guitar to play blues or any clean guitar- there are much better choices than this for those styles. That being said, this guitar can sound perfectly fine when you do need to clean it up. I got a cobalt blue one, and it looks fantastic. I have an S5470 prestige and while its not quite in the same league as that guitar, it definitely is in the same league as the RG3550 prestige that is 700-800 more. Ok, yes the neck is not quite the same as a prestige neck, but I found for chunky rhythm playing that the slightly thicker neck works really well on the RG body. The fit and finish are flawless, and while it is a veneer quilt top, it looks great. The pickups are perfectly fine- only a slight loss of output compared to my dimebucker equipped s5470 prestige. Disregarding the price this is an awesome guitar for heavy styles, and when you factor in price it might be one of the best values out there. It honestly beats my esp horizon II, MIJ first edition RG, and any usa schecter or jackson I've played. I would put it at a tie with the RG 3550 prestige. If you want a better ibanez rg you're gonna have to buy the $3500 j-custom. Try one out, I'm sure you'll agree if you play metal.

  • Good Quality at a Great Price

As reviewed by ClassicRockForever on 5/15/2011

I own an epiphone les paul and I decided to get a "real guitar" that I would keep for a long time. My first instinct was to upgrade to a Gibson because I thought that it's quality would justify the rediculous prices. I tried many at the store, but none gave me the lead tone I wanted. Then I came across this guitar on the Ibanez website and saw that the reviews were good so I ordered it. When it came, I saw that the finish actually looked better than the pictures Cobalt Blue was very beautiful and the cosmo black hardware went well with it. It took several hours for me to get the string hight adjusted for the Super Slinkys (the diaddrios that came standard didn't have enough definition) I put on it, but that was most likely because I had no experience with double-locking trems. I plugged it into my Line 6 spider amp and could crank out just about any tone I wanted: Rock, Metal,Clean, and Cruncy. If you want a reliable guitar that can do it all and still look beautiful , but don't want to break the bank, then this is a great option.
