sold on ibanez
I've recently started playing the guitar about 6 months ago, so I'm pretty new. I started on an 8 year old Fender Strat and can play some basic tunes, chords, and some very easy solos. I went into guitarcenter last night and while I was waiting for friend, I picked up this Ibanez RG5, and let me say, I felt like I was reborn. The songs that I learned on the Strat were so much easier to play on the RG5. I often go into guitarcenter and play guitars "unplugged" because I know I'm not very good. But let me say, for the first time, I plugged that RG5 into an amp and played.........really played. I can't explain it, you just have to play this guitar. It's absolutely amazing. It won't make you a rock star overnight, but I'm definitely heading back soon to buy this guitar, because I really think it will make me a better player, faster.

Love at first sight-
Right before Christmas, my girlfriend told me that she was buying me a guitar for Christmas, but she wanted me to pick it out, so as not to choose the wrong one. So I went down to my local Guitar Center to pick one out. I walked in the door, proceded to the guitar section, and then everything faded around me until all I could see was what would be my new RG5EX1. It looked like it had been forged by a gun company, the smooth finish, the detailing on the neck. It looked so sharp I thought it would cut me. I immediately took it down, plugged it into the biggest Line 6 Spyder I could find, and began to play. 1/8th of a second later, I knew it was the one. I have had it for six months now, and it still feels like the first time everytime I open its case and play it. Incidentaly, I also got the Line 6 Spyder, and a Digitech GNX4 that day. Beautiful gifts from a beautiful girl. Now to find a wedding ring, ha ha ha...

Great guitar, i gave it a 4 on quality because it needed a neck ajustment after being at Guitar Center and D tuned 2 1/2 steps down for who knows how long. Has a great sound for stock guitar, never has gone out of tune and I beat the crap out it. For the price you can't go wrong. I wouldn't change anything on it and that's rare for me becuase i always change something on my guitars.

Wish I Started Off Ibanez...
I knew after many times listening to some of my favorite deathmetal/metal/grindcore bands that used ibanez I had to give one a try. Nothing beats the quality passive pickups that ibanez presents in their instruments. If considering any mods to this axe sparzel locking tuners & dimarzio activator D's would be sufficient. Also I immediately put some elixir strings 49 gauge & tuned to D standard. This guitar is definately designed for fast riffs & complex metal styles of playing. I own many guitars and have played many guitars... for some reason this axe seems to be better than 90% of those $1,000 (minus) priced guitars.

Excellent Guitar!
This is an awesome guitar. I saw it when I walked in to GC. It caught my eye from the first time I saw it. Believe me, it looks as good as it sounds. It's easy to move across the neck, so you can play fast, and it delivers an electrifying sound. This is one of the best Ibanez RG series out there.

Excellent Value
I've had the RG5EX1 for about a month now, and I like it every bit as much as I did when I got it. The guitar has a thin, fast neck, hot pickups and an excellent finish.
The tremelo is solid and stays in tune well.
The pickups are versatile and sound good. The single coil is awfully buzzy, though.
There can be a lot of noise from the tremelo cavity, especially with the bridge pickup; this is inherent to a floyd rose design, however.
The only other complaint I really have is that the fret dressing could be better. The edges are a little rough and can catch your fingers every once in a while.

AMAZING!!!!
I went to the store and saw this guitar and fell in love with it instantly. IT IS AMAZING!!!! The only thing i would recommend doing is replacing the pickups (it's not necessary it just enhances the sound more than you can imagine.) I'd put Seymour Duncan Pearly gates in the neck and DiMarzio evolution in the bridge. Like other reviews have said the middle pickup can be a bit of a pain if thats where you pick the most but all u have to do is lower it. I havent tried this yet but if you put the Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rail Stacked Single Coil Pickup in the middle slot that gives you 3 humbuckers!!!! (the pickup i just mentioned is a humbucker but its sized downed to fit a single coil pickup slot [go duncan!]) even without the extra pickups its an amazing guitar!!!!!! do NOT hesitate to buy!!!

Wow amazing guitar for an amazing price
I got this guitar last april and all ive got to say is WOW!!! The moment i picked it up and imediatley went to the line six amps and started to play some solo licks and i knew that this was the guitar to buy. Since i got it learning songs was a hell of a lot easier because of the neck which is probably the most comfortable neck out there if you play very fast solo runs like me. The pickups are great i don't see why people complain about them and the tremolo is pretty good i can divebomb a lot and it will never go out of tune i havent had to tune it for over a month now which is pretty amazing. So get this guitar if you love metal or any type of rock.

Not too shabby...
This guitar has a great metal sound. Great for playing music like Porcupine Tree. It is definitely worth the buy. I would would recommend this guitar to all metal artist. The only bad thing about the guitar are the pickups. Their the older model but still get the job done. There is a little buzzing on the top string but its repairable.

Amazing!
I got this guitar probably about a year ago. I was out to buy me a new guitar, and I knew that I liked the Ibanez. I went into guitar center, and saw this guitar, because the one I had originally picked out was bought by someone else, and plugged in and played. I was amazed, I couldn't believe that something this great was something I could afford! Great guitar, other than the fact that after about 25 divebombs on the tremelo, the tremelo-arm slot had bent all up and the bar was falling out when you bent over.
Great guitar though, especially after you throw some 11's on there!
