An affordable rocker with a mahogany body, Wizard neck and fixed bridge.

The RG is the most recognizable and distinctive guitar in the Ibanez line. Three decades of metal have forged this high-performance machine, honing it for both speed and strength. This RG421 model has a mahogany body and a Wizard III neck shape that offers maximum comfort and speed. Its fingerboard is rosewood with 24 jumbo frets for bigger note bends and it also comes with dual Ibanez INF pickups that are wired to a 5-way switch for a variety of coil combinations and sounds. A fixed bridge and Cosmo black hardware complete the list of hard-rockin' appointments.

  • Your paying for the wood not quality.

As reviewed by MICHAEL BOUCHER on 5/3/2013

I picked this up since I don't own any Ibanez guitars. This is solid mahogany, and the wood is nice, but the quality is paint on headstock sloppy. Frets need some serious dressing. They are jumbo and really need some polishing too. The nut is about the worst I have seen on a production guitar. My high E keeps popping out. I would change it or just cut it myself, but this is going back. I have too many nice guitars to go out and spend another $1000+ to get a decent playing guitar. I have played Squire and Epi's that are built better for less. The sound I kind of like because it's so different from my other guitars. Kind of hard to describe. If you want a guitar that you can put some time and another $200 or so, go for it. If not just go get a squire or Epi.

  • Plays like a dream

As reviewed by Glen Meloy on 9/26/2013

I've been a leisure-time player (i.e. I just play by myself at home) for over 20 years. I decided it was time to upgrade from my old cheap guitar and finally get the "nice" guitar I always wanted. I wasn't going to go crazy on a $2k Les Paul, but I was well prepared to spend $600 or more on a good guitar. After spending all day playing many different guitars (including some $1000 Gibsons and Fenders) at two different music stores, I ended up liking this cheap $300 Ibanez better than all of them. It just plays like a dream - the neck is super slim and fast, the action is low, and the body balances nicely on my knee. Plus it looks nice with its natural stained wood finish. I'm sure the sound snobs will claim it has low quality pickups etc, but it sounds fine to me. I couldn't be happier with it. I saved so much money on the guitar that I bought one of those cool Yamaha THR amps with the rest of the money.
