A mahogany body with an ultrafast neck and powerful pickups.

This Ibanez S5521Q Prestige is an electric guitar that metal-minded guitarists will love. 24 frets and a 5-piece Super Wizard fast neck, Gotoh precision locking tuners, lower-profile designed Gibraltar Standard bridge, and an advanced tonal versatility give the S5521Q guitar an edge over most guitars in its class.

Heavy mahogany tone without the heavy mahogany weight. Thin around the edges for comfort, fat around the pickups and bridge for tone. S Prestige model features V7 neck humbucker pickup, and V8 bridge humbucker pickup. V series humbuckers are hot, yet sharp enough to hear the pick bite the strings. If you need serious performance and style, an Ibanez S5521Q solidbody electric guitar is an excellent choice.

  • A truly unique guitar! LOVE IT!

As reviewed by Jeffrey Jackson on 4/16/2014

I happened to walk into the NYC GC the day after they first put this beauty on the floor. I was in the market for something lighter and leaner than my strat. I've never been an Ibanez fan. But after playing this wonder for half-an-hour, I was totally won over. The most distinct feature of this guitar is its ultra (and I mean ULTRA) slim profile, both neck and body. It's not only the thinnest, flattest neck you've ever played, it may be the thinnest, flattest neck ever. Some people might find it uncomfortably so, but my small hands found it very welcoming (while admittedly taking some getting used to -- It's a shock to go back and forth to my strat). Add jumbo frets and a silky smooth neck finish that's somewhere between gloss and satin and you have one FAST neck. The body is ridiculously slim, too. Arched top and scultped back narrows to less than an inch thick at the edges. But it's perfectly balanced and -- for me, anyway -- feels great in my hands. If you're the type that feels cheated unless they're holding a giant log of a guitar, then look elsewhere. The aesthetics of this guitar are absolutely gorgeous. Quilted maple top with a unique sunburst that Ibanez has dubbed "Wild Pilsner" (love that); matching headstock. White binding around the edges of body and neck set it off nicely. Offset dot markings on the fretboard are another step beyond the ordinary. Also, a cool, strat-like recessed jack on the top that is sculpted right into the mahogany body. Gold hardware is a nice finishing touch. A++ on the aesthetics. The only subtle nod to typical Ibanez extreme designs is its angular headstock. Like a lot of you, I always thought of Ibanez as a guitar strictly for shredders (which I'm not -- so I've avoided them). But this piece has a distinctly different vibe, equally at home in a country band or a blues club (IMHO) -- an idea underscored by the absence of a tremolo arm (fine w/me). If I could give half-stars, I might hold a fraction back for the electronics. Two humbuckers that the jury is still out on -- I may replace them some day; or maybe I just have to get used to them. But a nicely designed 5-position pickup switch gives you some interesting split-coil combinations. I was demo-ing this against a PRS that went for a third the price. Between the cost and my brand-snobbery, I really wanted the PRS to win, but in the end, I couldn't deny that this guitar was just amazing. A little pricey for many. But overall, an AMAZING guitar that I am LOVING playing. Kudos to ee-BAN-yez for thinking outside the box.
