  • Awesome Guitar!

As reviewed by Frontman on 7/17/2010

I have 9 guitars, from cheap to vintage, and play in a classic rock band. I bought the Montage hybrid about a month ago and I love it! It's not perfect, but it's damn close. The action was very high, but I adjusted it myself and it's fine now. The finish is beautiful. It's just slightly neck heavy but a less slippery strap took care of that. The acoustic tone is really rich, the dirty electric tone is adjustable from some crunch for rhythm to screaming for leads. I put X-light strings on it, 10's, and though it's not like playing my Strat, it's fine for most leads. The best thing is just flipping a switch instead of changing guitars between songs on stage. Downsides: the clean tone is too bright for me, and too clean, but when I mix it in a bit with the acoustic it's fat. When I play unplugged there's a slight buzz from the body that I haven't traced yet, but that's only audible when unplugged which I would rarely do. Like all slim acoustic guitars it really sounds a bit dull unplugged, but that's not what it's for...not a big deal. The biggest flaw is that when playing clean the high E string is a LOT LOUDER than the other strings. I mean, it REALLY IS LOUDER!. I'm going to talk to Ibanez and see if that can be adjusted down somewhat. The controls are easy to use and logically laid out. The Chorus is very pretty even if it is mono, though I wish I could adjust it a bit...it's factory set. The reverb is very impressive, and the three band EQ works great. I found that the acoustic setting was a bit harsh so I backed down the mid-range slider slightly and it sounds great now. Really, if it weren't for the high E string issue I would have given this guitar a solid 5 stars. I absolutely love it...and so does my sound man!

  • Trouble With The Montage

As reviewed by R. Jansen on 11/9/2010

I am on my second Ibanez Montage guitar because of pickup problems with the first one I ordered after 50 days of receiving it. I am just beginning to experience the same type of problems as I did on the first guitar but in lest than two weeks of receiving the exchange. I'm totally in love with the style and handling of the guitar as well as the easy playing neck. The sound is awesome when it works properly, but unfortunately there seems to be a glitch in the electronics. With the returns that have been made I'm surprised that Ibanez doesn't put more effort into fixing the problem, and if not, getting rid of it altogether. It's a shame too, because it could be a shining star if it worked well. I'm not sure what I am going to do if this one goes on the blink. I might try a third time but if it doesn't work out then I'll move on and get my money back.

  • Super versatile

As reviewed by Ross Harrell on 6/30/2008

I have been playing this for a couple of weeks now, it sounds great any way I want to play it. Acoustically (non-amped) it is fun (certainly not up to a typical acoustic) and sounds good enough. The pickups sound great, the controls are easy to see and use, and having an on-board tuner is icing on the cake. Looks gorgeous too!
