  • Incredible value.

As reviewed by Penny Horan on 4/20/2013

I did a lot of research before purchasing this guitar. My budget was set at up to $1000, but ultimately, I decided on the RGIR20FE for a number of reasons, and I'm glad I did. Firstly, I'll just say that this guitar is incredible for the money. That's not to say it's flawless, or perfect, or 5-star, but rather that it is an incredible value. For the price, you're not gonna find a better guitar. The construction is very solid, the neck is incredibly comfortable and the whole thing just looks fantastic. I got it in white, and it's aesthetically very nice. The real selling point of the Iron Label line seems to be the Nitro Wizard neck, and that's a fair point, because it is an awesome neck. Thin, comfortable. The deep cut in the body gives access to all 24 frets on all six strings with ease, and I just plain like holding this thing. Additionally, the pickup set is hard to pass up for the money. Few guitars in this price range run EMGs, and other Ibanez guitars of similar price usually come with the in-house crap they make themselves, so I was very pleased to get pickups I actually like in a guitar that didn't break the bank. Unsurprisingly, it sounds very good. EMG 81/85s are just good, and that's really all there is to it. The basswood body is obviously not ideal, but for the money, she's got plenty of resonance. The RGIR has a few faults to it, though. Firstly, and most glaringly, the frets are a little sharp. It's not horrible, and hardly renders the thing unplayable, but compared to my other guitars, it's noticeable. My friend of course recommended that I have them filed down, and I may do that, but my point is that I'd rather not HAVE to. That's what keeps this from five stars for me. Secondly, the guitar was NOT in 100% flawless condition upon arrival. The body itself is flawless, but the neck was a little dirty and smudged in the package, and there's a nick on the side of the neck. It's small and doesn't affect playability at all, but it did bug me a bit. Overall, I'm quite satisfied with this guitar. I had the opportunity to play the S-series version of the Iron Label before ultimately purchasing the RG, and I have to say that it seems like it is worth the extra money. The construction feels a bit more solid, and I found the neck to be a tad more comfortable than my RG, if only because the frets weren't noticeably sharp. That's not to say I regret getting the RG or wish I'd gotten the S, but rather that they both have their ups and downs. I do recommend this guitar, quite whole-heartedly; however, I recommend you try it out in store first rather than purchasing it blind online.

  • A true workhorse

As reviewed by Evan Neel on 10/25/2013

I just bought the black version. This guitar is constructed very well, doesn't feel cheap like a lot of guitars I've owned. This is my 5th Ibanez and it is the best one so far. I'm not really an EMG fan but they sound amazing for this particular model, super clear distortion and very loud. The neck is super smooth and doesn't have "sharp" feeling frets. The binding on the body and neck is very nice and well done. I really enjoy the single volume knob, and the kill switch is great feature to have especially playing live in between songs. I love the fact that it doesn't have a floating tremolo, so changing tunings and worrying intonation isn't a hassle like with most Ibanez's. Definitely a player's guitar. Great quality, tone, and simplified looks. I would recommend this guitar to anyone. Might even buy another one. Haha

  • The Best Guitar I have ever played!

As reviewed by Hunter Abernathy on 1/29/2013

I have played a lot of different guitars from just starting to now. This guitar beats them all. I owned a Synyster Gates Custom and had gotten rid of it for a Schecter PT limited edition 2001 version. It is a rare model and I have always loved that guitar.Til' now. This Ibanez blew my mind.Me and my best friend went to my local Guitar Center last week and they had just gotten this thing in.It was on the top self and we had never seen it before. We just had to play it.We got it down and plugged it in and it just blew us away. The EMG 81/60 pick-ups are just unbelievable. The Nitro Wizard neck is very fast and smooth. It is a thinner neck as most Ibanez necks are.The RG body-style has such a attitude to it.The flat black w/white binding is just beautiful. Another thing that makes this guitar stand out is that there are NO mounting rings around the EMGs.That makes it look so different. The Gibratar bridge is perfect for Metal and Hard Rock.nice smooth and the sustain is perfect. The Kill-switch is just another great added feature.Gives you some different sounds and makes it sound better. This is definitly for Metal like they said.Ibanez is the best.Best quality and all!
