A limited series with a beautiful flame top, set neck and DiMarzio pickups.

As legend has it, shred-master Paul Gilbert dropped an image of one of his favorite guitars, the Ibanez Iceman, into Photoshop, and began to digitally re-shape the iconic instrument into what would become his personal dream guitar, the Fireman. As his fans know, Gilbert is not given to standing still for long, and that restlessness is expressed in his gear as well as his playing. Hes re-tooled the Fireman several times through the years, and now in honor of his 25th year as an Ibanez endorser, Gilbert and the guitar maker have created what may be their most exciting collaboration yet.

As with previous Fireman models this axe features a bigger-than-average set-in neck joint that Gilbert maintains in the secret to his endless sustain. The neck is a 3-pc Mahogany/Maple, and sports a Rosewood fretboard with tall frets. The Tight Tune bridge is the perfect hardtail combination of adjustability and night-after-night solid tuning stability.

The FRM250MF Humbucker/Single Coil/ Humbucker pickup configuration is juiced to the max by an arsenal of Gilberts favorite DiMarzio. The guitarists choice in pickups make for a powerful sonic contrast, pitting the built-for-distortion DiMarzio Air Classic against the clarity of an Area 67 classic single coil middle pickup (sans the single-coil noise, thanks DiMarzio!). Though Paul Gilberts fans will be the first to gravitate toward the new Fireman, Gilbert is quick to point out that this Fireman lends itself to bold exploration in a variety of musical directions.

Tight-Tune Bridge and Tailpiece
The original Ibanez Tight-Tune bridge and tailpiece promote superior transfer of string vibration without unwanted movement. Ball ends are locked in for simpler string changes.

The FRM250MF features a specific layout to keep the volume knob location in Paul's favorite spot. In addition, the guitar features a pickup selector switch and an added tone control for maximum tone shaping.

  • Best Guitar Ever

As reviewed by todd on 7/22/2014

This is seriously the best guitar I've ever played. Let me tell you why... First of all, I play rock music. This means, I like to hit my chords and notes HARD... How can I do this with the pickup selector switch and the volume/tone knobs in the way? The FRM250 places these switches out of the picking path so that I can slam those strings without hitting the selector switch or the knobs. Secondly, the guitar's volume knob is very awesome. It has humbuckers which means it's going to have higher output than say a Fender Strat which features just single coils... This means that this guitar is great for playing louder more distorted stuff. BUT... I've found that on my FRM250 if I turn the volume knob almost all the way down, the sound becomes incredibly clean, particularly the low-end distortion disappears... Why is this so awesome? Because I don't have to hit pedals or go to my amp in order to go from distorted to clean and back as much as I would with other guitars. I did a side-by-side comparison with this guitar and my Fender American Standard and I was very impressed. I use a Fender Super Champ X2 and I played both clean and distorted tunes on both guitars with the same settings. Overall, the FRM250 has a deeper, fatter sound to it. It adds a lot of depth and bass to the tone when compared to my Fender. I may still bust out the Strat when I want to play pure blues, but for anything else, the FRM250 is the king. The 250 still has great clean tones as well. Oh and one more thing. The sustain is RIDICULOUS! I've never played a guitar that can sustain notes like this one. My only guess is the jumbo frets... When I bend strings, MAN do they sing! This guitar looks, sounds, and plays absolutely fantastic. I HIGHLY recommend it. And I'm PICKY when it comes to sound.
