I purchased this at Guitar Center online and it delivered in a timely manner, very impressed. Most 7 stings i don't like the shape or style but this guitar looks fierce, like a modern LP cut. Being that it's a mid range priced guitar i anticipated installing hotter pick-ups like the EMG 707's but it sounds tight out the box! The true test is to play it loud which i will get around to very soon. The pick-ups are mid-output which actually sound tight when playing syncopated chugs (thrash or djent style) with high gain. Really good clarity and the notes sing when holding long bends. The only thing i might change on this beautiful axe is the tuners, the ratio is not so good, especially on the D string for whatever reason. I'm kind of hesitant to change anything because the sustain is really nice, even when she's not plugged in! The guitar ships with D'Addario strings and the action is a slightly high but i personally like that cause i like to dig in a little harder, every player is different. Players that like low action can get a simple set-up adjustment. another noticeable feature is the the truss rod cover, you can manually open it like a little door to access the truss rod, no longer do you need to unscrew it. I finally found my kick ass 7 string - thanks Ibanez/Guitar Center!
I bought this from the new Guitar Center in Charlotte, NC, and I have to say, this is my kind of seven string, when your up the neck at the higher frets, it feels as if your hand has just found home, speed playing is super comfortable on the high frets. On the lower frets, your hand will just wrap around the neck as if it is natural, I LOVE this guitar and recommend it to any seven string player who wants to try out a seven string. Personally, the pickups are a bit muddy, but no matter, Seymor Duncans or such will do :D
Features: Standard two pickup, master volume/tone setup. The stock pickups are surprisingly good; solid sound definition and no muddiness in the low-range. Tuners are nice and tight, and the bridge is stable, but easy to adjust. The truss rod cover has a swivel-door for ease-of-access, and the neck holds nicely even with heavy strings. Wide, low-profile strap buttons feel less failure-prone than other designs. Integrated jack also unlikely to loosen. Contoured set neck allows smooth access up to the 24th fret of every string. Mahogany body surprisingly sharp and resonant. Quality & Reliability: The neck has been so far resistant to warping, and the intonation is very precise. Craftsmanship is solid. Look & Feel: This guitar is one classy ax; the glossy black with white binding is evocative of a suit. The neck looks very clean with its absence of position markers in front. (It maintains small black dots on the neck binding, though.) The guitar is surprisingly light, and balances nicely across the knee. Action is taut, but supple. The 25" scale makes the high frets easy to play. Overall: This guitar comes highly recommended to those looking for a reasonably-priced, quality 7-string. Jazz musicians will not be disappointed.
