• Best Flanger I've Heard

  I was in the market for a flanger for a long time, and when I heard the Airplane flanger I knew I found the one I was looking for. Fat, warm and organic - sounds incredible. Tons of usable sounds in Taxi mode. All knobs work to give flexibity to your sound. Suggested settings that come in instruction manual are good place to start when trying to find your sound. I like the "Warm Flanger" setting. Take off mode's a little gimicky for me. Looks like it's built really well and should last. Comes w/ power adaptor that you must use to run the pedal - can't use batteries. Would definitly buy again.

  im sure there are better and more expensive boutique flangers out there. so i will stop short of saying this is the absolute best flanger. but for the price, im sure it is the best. it is extremely versatile and can dial in so many unique sounds. im a big fan of steve stevens too and some of his wacky raygun sounds and effects can be achieved with this pedal. the take off mode may be a gimmick to some people, but if you use it right, its a pretty amazing feature. the only caveat is to make sure and not use it in the amp's effects loop. as others have said, it will take over the signal and be wayyyyy too loud. it hurts, trust me. also the take off feature doesnt have alot of use with clean playing. so put this pedal before your distortion. use taxi mode for clean or dirty, and use take off for dirty only.

  I recently purchased the Ibanez AF2 Airplane flanger and I was never less than happy about it. I've been playing the guitar more than half my life now and with that comes hundreds of Flangers that have passed my pedal rig and ones I have tested. This one is exactly what I wanted and needed. It goes very well in terms of traditional flange effects (via the taxi mode) but it can also drive you (and your audience) nuts (with the take off switch) I also observed that the dive or the way it "takes off" responds to your playing prior to engaging the "take off" section. It was kind of tricky at first but getting used to it is pretty fast because it is very inviting to play with it. You will never feel time passing by as you play the most heart-melting melodic lines to high octane arpeggios and 32nd note runs. I would be very open to the suggestion (or maybe the fact" that sound always depends on the listener. what's good to me may not be even satisfactory to others, and that could really be the case. Some might consider that this flanger is not the best one out there, and maybe it isn't but it is the best in terms of providing me with the flange sounds that I want and need. Very commendable work from Paul Gilbert and Ibanez electronics team.
