  • Just an exceptional value; GORGEOUS guitar

As reviewed by Michael Grigsby on 4/29/2014

This is one drop dead gorgeous guitar. The price is so affordable, I didn't know what I would be getting. Finish: I bought the tangerine color because at the time the only other choice was dull black. The tangerine color is just beautiful with the rosewood back, and the rosette and piping around the edges is exceptional. The varnish/finish is flawless, and the rosewood looks spectacular (sorry, running out of adjectives), with the pearl edging. The fit is perfect, the tuners are pretty with the gold and pearl. It is one of the most beautiful guitars I have ever owned. Mechanics: The tuners are robust, and the guitar stays in tune. I couldn't believe it when I opened up the box and the tuning was dead on with my electronic tuner, right out of the box. It is also perfectly set up. The strings were really well wound (I learned something by looking at them, to be honest). The height of the strings are perfect for easy playing, as the bridge is perfectly set. Electronics: The built in tuner and pickup is just great. What an amazing deal, and really well thought out. The output was not that powerful for live performance, so I had to put a preamp in before it hit the main amp, but very good for a smaller, quiet venue. Sound: The sound on mine is crystal clear. I've read reviews that said it wasn't that bright, but I was very impressed. If a review said it isn't bright, or it is muffled, it is probably because they've never played a nylon string before. This one is exceptional. The narrow body is really easy to hold, but it isn't all that loud unless you plug it in. But in a small room (I play for guests when they come over), it is loud enough, and hooking a small amp up isn't even necessary in a smaller room. Value: If I didn't know what I paid for this guitar, I would guess it would cost about $1,500 or more. It is a perfect guitar for a beginner because of the low price, high quality, and a guitar you can proudly hold on to for the rest of your life. Playability: What an easy guitar to play. I like it for songs with a lot of finger slides because the nylon string isn't as noisy as steel. The height of the bridge, ability to tune it with the internal tuner, and scale of build, make it an absolute joy to play. Ibanez: I have to include a note about Ibanez. I've never played an Ibanez before, and this model is every bit as good as my Martin's, Gibsons, Fender's, Taylor, and Breedlove. Sure it may be mass produced, and maybe lacking the subtle variations you would see in a hand made guitar, but Ibanez really impressed me with this one. The moment I opened the box, I said "Wow". I never knew much about Ibanze before, but I bought the guitar because I wanted to get into a nylon string guitar, and this blew away my expectations. Well done, Ibanez. Pros: Fit, finish, price, sound, electronics... heck, I can't even list all the pros. Cons: Not as loud as a full size (depth) body. Amp could use a little more output. I also thought the tuner, was a little slow to react, but I haven't had a built in tuner before, so maybe my expectations are higher. Nothing really bad about this guitar.

  • New Go-To Guitar

As reviewed by JUSTIN PANLASIGUI on 10/17/2013

This guitar is the latest evolution of the AEG10NE - which Ibanez claims to have perfected with this model. This claim is hard to believe since the NE is so popular but Ibanez certainly delivered! It is the absolute perfect guitar if you want a tool for all occasions - relaxed couch play to gig nights. The sound isn't very loud acoustically, but the tone is still very nice when it isn't plugged in. The action is low (which I like) and the feel of the fret board is smooth as silk. It comes strung with D'darrio high-tension nylons for extended play. After an unfortunate run-in with a Cordoba that cost more than twice as much, I made sure to check that the AEG bracing doesn't rattle. I held my ear up to the body while picking the strings on every fret and I could not detect the faintest rattling. Overall, this guitar is fantastically constructed. My only negative feedback is that some of the adhesive for the nut spilled over onto the first fret - just a little bit; barely noticeable. The price point coupled with intense Japanese quality control makes this guitar a winner all-around.
