The ISP Technologies Theta Preamplifier offers a unique approach for guitarists by providing 2 selectable input pre-distort preamplifiers. Using the Theta preamp is like having 2 low-noise, extremely high-quality preamp pedals at the input of the amplifier. Each front-end pre-amp has gain, bass, mid level, mid sweep and treble which provides amazing pre-distort tone shaping. The amplifiers' Clean and Distort circuits have the same post-distort tone shaping. The Theta preamp delivers tone beyond your wildest dreams! No other amplifier—tube, solid state or digital—even comes close to the sonic flexibility of the Theta preamp.
The Clean channel has additional tone shaping with the inclusion of a presence control providing more than 20db of high frequency boost. You want gain? The Theta preamp literally has more gain available than any amplifier ever produced with greater than 140db of gain and you can control it and make it useable only because ISP included dual independent full-featured Decimator Noise Reduction systems. The Decimator guitar noise reduction system defines a new standard for excellence in real time noise reduction performance. The Decimator was designed to provide the maximum possible performance in a noise reduction system designed specifically for extremely high gain guitar amplifiers.
The Theta preamp Decimator is the only system in the world designed with dual channels of single ended noise reduction. Configured specifically for high gain guitar applications. The Theta is the first preamp to incorporate "Dynamic Saturation Modulation™", which delivers the actual feel of a saturated tube power amplifier.

Although very new to me, the ISP Theta Preamp is nothing short of a beast. The mid sweep functions on both the preamp and the distort channel offer TONS of tone shaping possibilities from 80's heavy metal to modern and anything in between. I am fond of running the distort channel without the preamp2 active (with it, the tone is even thicker... the bass response is almost too much). It's both crunchy/heavy and spacious enough to blend into a mix without over running other instruments. The clean channel is one of the best I've heard. I'm still discovering all it can do, but the on board Decimator is worth it's price in gold. Plus, the direct out (XLR) functions as a very nice cabinet emulator direct to the board for recording or live. It's mean, solid state and VERY versatile. If you have a tone in mind, I'm quite sure the ISP Theta can achieve it. A great product... period.
In addition to all that I stated in the first review, this is the only preamp I've used EVER that manages to capture very specific distorted and clean sounds ala Alex Lifeson on Power Windows and A Show of Hands. I am actually stunned at the versatility of this unit. Now, add all the modern metal stuff that it can do by engaging the mid sweeps, take out the sweep and it's thick and chunky and an easy contender for any type of Boogie tone. You want it, the Theta brings it.
