I travel a LOT, so tossing iRig in my guitar case makes it easy to practice when I'm on the road. I'm so impressed with the tone and gear, this is an outstanding investment that outperformed my pocket POD! Usually I listen on headphones and it's nice, but hook up a pair of monitors or a nice stereo and WOW! My favorite feature is definitely being able to load in and jam along with .mp3s - makes it super easy to learn songs! Tuner and metronome are great, too, making it a perfect little practice tool.

That's it - the title statement wraps it up. I really like it, even though it has some hiss/noise and the included noise filter muffles the sound a bit. That said - it is a relatively versatile little tool with tuner and metronome, storable presets, and you can import songs to jam along. The quality of the effects / amps is good, my personal favorites are the "crunch" and "clean" amps. The emulation of sound and controls is really well done. This gadget is great for traveling e.g. with a traveler guitar, or to practice at home with earphones. The size makes it ideal for travel! Your iPhone is your amp :-) $40 for a three-way bus is a little overpriced, but it's fun, and handy. Extra effects can be purchased online for $2.99 or 4.99 for amps. If this is acceptable or not - depends on your budget. Future features I would like to see: -Tempo adjustment of imported songs without changing pitch (for practicing) - Looping of the same (to practice phrases). - Stereo for some effects (delay, chorus?) - Less hiss/noise - a few drum beats to complement the metronome

Works, but terrible noises

By Daniel

from San Antonio

Comments about IK Multimedia iRig - Audio Interface Adapter for iPhone, iPod, iPad:

You need to fiddle with the virtual amp volume the device volume, and the guitar volume, in order to play without having a terrible noise on the speakers ( the same noise that a mic and an amp make when you put them close) The app is trash, i tried the free one and never got to play something with background noises. But it works good on Garageband.

Comments about IK Multimedia iRig - Audio Interface Adapter for iPhone, iPod, iPad:

Haven't stopped playing with this since I got it for Christmas. Get the Amplitube bundle it's was worth every penny. I love the portability of the IRig too, I can take it almost anywhere I take my guitar.

Works as expected

By SCOTT SEWELL

from Topeka, Kan.

Comments about IK Multimedia iRig - Audio Interface Adapter for iPhone, iPod, iPad:

This item works as expected. I really have complaints about the device itself, but I quickly found that trying to rehearse with a cord from the bass to the iRig, THEN the iRig plugged into an iPhone, THEN having headphones to listen to it all...it's a bit cumbersome. I've used this a few times, but have found that just plugging the bass into an amp and listening to tunes through my stereo is a little more simple. Going old school is often a good thing. I do like the app and the way I can add tunes from my iTunes library to play along with. But the number of amps for a bass is very lacking.

Spend a little more and get the HD version

By Robert Turk

from Pflugerville, TX

Comments about IK Multimedia iRig - Audio Interface Adapter for iPhone, iPod, iPad:

I am thankful that I bought an iRig. It got me to record, and to have fun doing so. However, as other reviewers have noted, the sound quality you get from an iRig is not so good. The iRig HD is a 24-bit high-fidelity recording source and sounds tons better. It's definitely worth the extra $70 or whatever it costs you. If you're thinking about this, and you want to start recording, go with the HD version.

It's great... when it works...

By Kelsie LeCrone

from Lancaster, OH

Comments about IK Multimedia iRig - Audio Interface Adapter for iPhone, iPod, iPad:

I absolutely Love the iRig. What it does is fantastic. The only thing I don't care for is the little wire sticking off of it. It's really flimsy, and it breaks Very easily. I've gone through 3 of these... All of which were prior to the new one releasing. I only recommend this one, if you can't fork out the cash for the new iRig HD... if you can, get that one. It eliminated that horrible flimsy wire that breaks.

iRig & Amplitube...WHAT A RIPOFF!

By stephen cloud

from Texas

Comments about IK Multimedia iRig - Audio Interface Adapter for iPhone, iPod, iPad:

I've been interested in these since they came out. I figured it would be a sweet setup and would easily fit in my guitar case. Guitar Center had them on sale for $24.99, so I thought I'd give it a try. Came home, and went to download Amplitube. Uh-oh...there's a "free" version, and a paid version at $20. Opted for free to try things out. Seriously? $25 for a cable plug in, that includes NO software price reduction? The free versions of Amplitube are an absolute joke. One amp model...that's it. And, to top it off, if you want to buy Amplitube for your iPad, then use it on you iPhone...yup...you get to PAY FOR IT AGAIN! So, I tried the Peavey veresion of Amplitube, "Amped"...same deal...you pay for each effect, and each amp. LAME! It works with Garage Band, but has noise issues... This iRig seems REALLY noisy. Tons of noise...and static that sounds like there's a bad cable in the mix. Changed cables...no change in problem. Am I doing something wrong? Probably gonna take it back for a refund. $25 for the iRig, plus $40+ to get the software on my phone/ipad. Not worth the money, IMO. Just get a Korg Pandora or a Line6 Pocketpod...

Works like a charm

By Keith Harmeyer

from Hollywood, FL

Comments about IK Multimedia iRig - Audio Interface Adapter for iPhone, iPod, iPad:

I've read a few negative reviews of this product, and from my experience, I have no idea why. After EXTENSIVE research, I thought the iRig was the best bet for the money. And so far I'm really happy. It works perfectly with ALL of the apps I have - and, of course, especially the Amplitube apps. I am just using it for practice and some songwriting recording. But I've experienced no noticeable latency at all with my iPhone 5. The free versions of the Amplitube apps are great (and there are others that are excellent) - and, of course, LOTS of great add-ons you can purchase. There may be others that are even better (for a much higher price). But for my needs and tastes, this is excellent. It gets my highest recommendation.

Fantastic concept... poorly crafted.

By Kelsie LeCrone

from Lancaster

Comments about IK Multimedia iRig - Audio Interface Adapter for iPhone, iPod, iPad:

I use this with Ampkit... and it works almost perfect. I'm not sure if it's just the iRig that I have, or if it's a defect in all (or the majority) of them... but the audio tends to only come out of 1 speaker unless I twist and bend the 3.5mm jack around. Other than that... I love this thing. I love playing Megadeth, and the combination of this and Ampkit, allows me to achieve the perfect tone. The only thing that could have made this better would have been to do away with the plastic where the 3.5mm and 1/4 'headphone' jacks go. Metal would have been better.

Beyond Bad

By Matthew Weeks

from NY

Comments about IK Multimedia iRig - Audio Interface Adapter for iPhone, iPod, iPad:

The IRig is a completely useless device. So much interference and noise. At one point I was picking up weird noises and radio stations. Go with the Jam by Apogee. It actually works and is easy to use and hook up. Stay away from the iRig. It is nothing more than a headache.
