cheap junk shorted out and headphone jack and usb output within 1 hour use while on vacation.
This was a real oops, and is not returnable. Device has low sample quality at just 16 bits. If poor quality is not bad enough, the company spams you to death.
Pros: The Stealth Plug is a great little gadget for those who want to conveniently jam on the go or play live. It's very affordable, reliable(can survive hours of usage) sounds great with regular speakers and is very versatile (i will elaborate on versatile in a bit). The interface is very simple, with a volume switch a headphone jack right next to it, a green light that lets you know that its working and a 9 foot cable. (IN FACT you can find a 1/8 plug, get a 1/4 plug adapter and plug the stealth plug's interface from the guitar, then computer and then into an amp making this very easy to play live without any complicated gadgets) Cons: The program that is included (amplitube 2 live) is not the best however. This program (I THINK) puts a boundary between the player and amazing guitar modeling. It has very little distortion components, effects and the presets don't sound like the sounds you hear on stage. I suggest using the stealth plugs versatility and replace amplitube 2 live with guitar rig or something like that. After all the stealth plug is capable of working with other programs.(this is pretty much all the cons) NOTE** for those who have trouble with the installation of the stealth plug on windows 7 x64, you are going to have to use a computer that has win 7 x32, because it is not compatible with win x64. Also DON'T plug in the stealth plug into the computer BEFORE you install stealthplug.exe (Just explore the disk to find this application). If you fail to follow this, the driver installed by windows for the stealth plug will make the sound produced very stat-icky, and stealthplug.exe will not install. Anyways enjoy.
I'll just cut to the point: this is a good product. I bought this product while I was new to the concept of recording because it seemed very easy to use...and it was. However, it is much less of a hassle to use it on an Apple computer than a PC. I used it on my Windows XP computer, and my MacBook Pro, and there is not even a comparison between the two. On my PC, the plug would have to constantly be reset (every 5-10 mins), because the sound would suddenly become distorted and fuzzy. When I use it on my mac, I have no problems. I do not mean to discourage people who have Windows computers from buying this product-the plug worked satisfactorily with the windows computer and I was easily able to record songs, but I just want to make the point that this plug operates better with my mac. (The newer mac might run the plug better simply because it is newer, but I think it is because it is an apple product). I would definitely recommend this product. It is easy to use and works great. All the software that comes with it is amazing and is really a great deal for the price. Do not hesitate to buy this product. The product easily plugs right into a USB port on your computer, and the other into your instrument. I have used my guitar and electric drum set, and I have even hooked it up to a microphone, and it works great. The software is very sophisticated, but easy to use after reading the instructions. Installation of the software is easy and quick. This product is really great-i even took the time to write a review about it. I hate writing reviews, but I really am satisfied with this product and thought you should know about it.
I decided to give the Stealth plug a try since I was wanting a quick easy way to hook up my guitar to any pc or laptop. I read some not so positive reviews from others on the Cakewalk forum but still decided I had to see for myself. The installation was effortless, the drivers installed without a hitch and I was up and going in no time. Amplitube 2 live which comes with it in both standalone and VST form also installed with no problems and though things went well their are a couple of concerns. First, under the windows platform because it uses ASIO, the only I/O choice you have is the Stealth plug. In other words you can't choose it for your input and your normal sound card for output. This limits you to having to use the headphone out on the stealth plug to hear what you are playing. It is an 1/8 in plug and you can connect it to headphones, powered speakers or your guitar amp, works fine that way but is not the best choice in my opinion. I would rather be able to use it for input and one of my Gina outs for output. Second, The input level is kind of low and when you try to get any kind of decent level into the computer you also get noise (Hiss). At first I thought of taking it back since it worked but not quite like I wanted. Then I decided that the software that comes with it, Amplitube 2 Live, T-Racks mastering EQ, and Samplitube 2 SE (Traction also but I don't need it) makes this worth the cost and the Stealth plug is very usuable when used within it's limits.
This thing is awesome. If you're looking for something to quickly lay down your guitar tracks and ideas the stealth is for you. There's no fiddling around with fancy programs or millions of buttons and settings, you literally plug it in, install the software, and away you go. It comes with AMPLITUDE which is a great program in itself, and alse a free demo of TRACKTION. It's a good deal and alot of fun. I recomend this to someone who just wants to play around and lay down some guitar riffs. If you're looking for more production and intricacy, the stealth is not for you. However, great deal, flawless product.
