WOW

By Marc

from Minneapolis, MN

Comments about Hughes & Kettner TriAmp MK II Tube Amp Head:

I bought this amp (sight unseeing, I'm afraid to admit) as an upgrade to my Marshall JCM2000 TSL100 head because I ran into an incredible deal that I just couldn't pass up with what I've heard about this amp. I turned all the knobs to 5 to start, and even without EQ adjustments, the tone was heavenly with my PRS. The first thing I noticed was how much more "full" of a sound I got than with the TSL, even everything at straight 5 settings. The versatility is fantastic, with two switchable gain controls on each of the three channels for six total settings (plus FX loop). Amp 1 varies from shimmering Fender-esque cleans to a smooth overdriven vintage Vox or Marshall tone. Amp 2 pumps out classic mid-gain tone reminiscent of a Marshall or Orange. Amp 2 seems to get the most mixed reviews from users, but I think it offers great options. Amp 3 just sounds MEAN. It's the Mesa Boogie that I could never dial in to my liking. Smooth and full with rich harmonics and a pounding low end. I haven't had a need to use the Red Box direct out or the MIDI features yet, but the versatility and the stellar tones from this unit have already far exceeded my expectations and certainly made me an H&K convert. If you can justify the price tag, you're going to love what you hear.

The Swiss Army Knife of Amps!

By Michael Lyons

from Jupiter, FL

Comments about Hughes & Kettner TriAmp MK II Tube Amp Head:

I've played a TriAmp MK II for about 8 years. It has it all, Sparkling cleans, Fat crunch sounds, and searing distortion channels. With 6(!) channels to choose from, it has flexibility that no other all-tube amp can match. I've toured the world with it, and it's still going strong. The only issues I've ever had with it are with the lights. The little bulbs in there are FRAGILE! Overall, I am %99 happy. I do sometimes wish it had a true solo boost and reverb, but hey, with all the amazing tones in it, who cares?!
