I've had mine for about 6 months and I'm really happy with it. I got a great metal rythm tone by switching to the "ultra" mode, turning the bass and trebble up, turning the mid down, and dialing in a pinch of delay. The effects section is great and eliminates the need for hundreds of dollars worth of pedals. You can save all settings and assign them to the footswitch, which is really great too. The only pedal you will truly, truly need is a boss NS-2. I played my first gig with out one and I was geting baaaaaaaad feedback. When I put the NS-2 in my chain (order: Line 6 G30 wireless, tuner, Dunlop wah, NS-2, then directly into guitar input) it saved my rythmic life!! Turn the threshhold all the way to the right and the decay to about 9 o'clock on the NS-2 and you'll be in business. I play the amp through a Dime Amplification cab and switch between a Jim Root signature tele and a Schecter ATX solo 6 and the tone is really good. For the price it is an amp you will love for long time.....
I just purchased this head used @ my local GC along with a B-52 400 watt Cabinet, got it home plugged in and started playing. I set the channels up quickly, and began ripping it up. I have the universal Master volume set on 1...and louder and I would have set my eyebrows ablaze...save that for tomorrow...this thing will get darn near any tone you could ever ask for and then some. I think the only thing I might add to the external fx loop would be an extra EQ just to see what other tones I might find...I love this amp and if I had to buy over again I would pay more than I did..
The Hughes and Kettner Switchblade 100 Head is a great amplifier with a ton of features, so letۡs dig right in. There is plenty of all tube power with a quartet of EL-34's (100 watts) and surprisingly warm and thick clean, crunch, lead and ultra overdrive and distortion settings with only two 12ax7 preamp tubes! The amp is programmable to store each of your settings for Gain, Bass, Mid, Treble and Presence up to 128 presets! The ۡ̏Master Channelۡݕ_ control knob also lets you store the same sound at different volume levels! There is also a ۡ̏Master Volumeۡݕ_ knob which controls the overall volume of the amplifier in concert with the channel controls. Aside from being an all tube amplifier, the addition of a built in effects section consists of a separate spring type reverb control and a delay with its own volume, time and feedback controls from 80 milliseconds to 1.4 seconds! The modulation section contains your choice of chorus, flanger or tremolo which is very easy to get, set and store (via MIDI). The amp also sports a programmable parallel/series effects loop with a 10db boost and full MIDI complement. The loudspeaker outputs are not switchable; however provide ample configurations with 4, 8 & 16 Ohm outputs. The included FSM-432 footswitch enables you to access any of your 128 stored presets at the drop of a hat and also has a ۡ̏tapۡݕ_ switch for tap delays on the fly! Right out of the box, you get plenty of gigable presets which are also very easy to edit and store with a quick turn of a knob. The Hughes and Kettner Switchblade series of amplififers are a fantastic all in one solution for the professional gigging guitarist. Check one out today!
