Loads of versatility make this combo great for studio, stage or rehersal.

Independent gain and master knobs aren't enough for the Hughes & Kettner TubeMeister 36W three channel 1x12 tube guitar combo amp. There's a built in MIDI system to access the channels, FX Loop and onboard reverb. It can even select the power stages of the integrated power soack. This revolutionary MIDI power soak can do some wild voicing tricks. For instance, you can tap its full dynamic range by running the Clean channel at 36W and switch over to th Crunch channel in 5W mode with the Master knob wide open to get good and grungy with some grinding rhythm. Or you could run the Lead channel at 18W for some high-gain riffage and switch over in a flash to the full 36W for a screaming solo.

A touch of a button is all it takes to conjure tp to 128 such combinations. Imagine what this can do for your stage performance. And the 1W option brings the sound of the big stage into your own four walls, sans tonal compromises. Now you can keep that Master knob dimed even at home. The built-in RED BOX feeds preamp and true power amp tone straight to a stage or studio mixing console. It emulates the sound of a 4x12 cab and delivers a balanced line signal to the Speaker Out for use in rehearsal rooms, on stage and straight into the PA. In combination with the power soak's silent recording option, the RED BOX lets you lay down pro quality tracks any time, day or night. You can even feed the signal to in-ear monitors on stage without having to fuss with a cab or mic.

The Tube Safety Control is an automated system that constantly monitors and adjusts the bias to ensure power tubes operate reliably and deliver to-die-for tone, always. With the TSC, swapping tubes couldn't be easier. This makes the TubeMeister 36 not only one of the most versatile tube amps, but also one of the most reliable. It also features a 12" Celestion Vintage 30 speaker in a dovetailed birch ply bass reflex housing that delivers a far bigger, bolder sound than you would expect.

  • Avoid using pedals into the clean channel, and skip the reverb.

As reviewed by JONATHAN on 6/9/2015

I bought one of these two years ago from GC. I had a great reverb pedal so I almost never touched the built-in reverb. Recently I moved the reverb pedal to another amp so I started experimenting with the built-in reverb. It was then that I noticed the reverb throws a literal hissy fit ? there is a lot of noise when it's turned on and up. A quick Google search revealed this is hardly an isolated problem. Then I noticed the clean channel simply doesn't play nice with distortion pedals. Frankly they sound fizzy. So I played around with the EQ and realized the clean channel is basically all treble, all the time. Only turning both treble and mid knobs nearly all the way down could I get some semblance of bass response. This is with the gain at least halfway up, and the bass EQ at least 3/4 up. That's not to say you can't get good tones from the crunch and lead channels ? in fact I turn the gain down on my crunch channel and basically use it as my clean, with pedals handling overdrive and distortion. But this is not what I want ? instead I want the clean channel to sound good both on its own and when pedals are driving it. So essentially I have a three channel amp with one completely useless channel and a reverb effect that hisses more than an angry cat. I only decided to write this review because Hughes & Kettner have not responded to any of my warranty or service enquiries over the last two weeks. Their lack of customer service makes me believe that you should not buy any of their products without an in-store test-drive. Spend your money elsewhere, on a more reliable amp.
