I don;t get it

By Glenn The Busker

About Me Professional Musician

Comments about Hohner RP565 MS Reed Plates - Diatonic:

I play Special 20's, the cost fluxes depending on where you get them.
Will someone please explain why one would pay MORE for the reeds instead of just buying a new harp? I mean if the instrument has some kind of nostalgic value I can understand but still...

Comments about Hohner RP565 MS Reed Plates - Diatonic:

I cannot understand why the replacements reeds are priced higher than the harmonicas they go into.

Saved a good Harp

By Richard Sabayrac _

from Wilton, NY

Comments about Hohner RP565 MS Reed Plates - Diatonic:

I had an old M.Horner 580 key of G with a wrecked reed. It had been around a few years. I needed a good key of C so I purchased these replacement reeds in C and installed it in my G harp to make it a C. The problem that I ran into was that on hole 1 & 2 the reeds were too long and touched the lower end of the comb. I hit a lick on the bottom of the comb to lengthen the chamber and corrected it. I now have an amazing C harp to complete my keys and at only half the cost. The reed set did not come in the nice red case as shown on the web-site and no extra screws came with it. A bit disappointing but really it still got the job done.

Disappointed with Hohner Reed Plate

By Don

from Tavares, Florida

Comments about Hohner RP565 MS Reed Plates - Diatonic:

While I was happy with the amount of time it took to receive my Low D harmonica reed plate from Musician's Friend, I was unhappy to find that the #6 blow reed had been bent and then an attempt made to straighten it. (from the Hohner factory?)
The thin brass reed once bent or kinked will not blow correctly. I have sent it back and I've been informed that it is on back order. With two big gigs coming up in January, I can only hope.
I have been playing harmonica for 65 years and in that time have had other disappointments with Hohner's quality control and had to return products. Unfortinately I don't know any other manufacturer offering a low D.

So Far...

By Patrick James McKenna

from St.Marys, GA

Comments about Hohner RP565 MS Reed Plates - Diatonic:

As ridiculously expensive as harmonicas have been getting, it's nice to have an alternative to having to entirely replace a harmonica or go through the tedius process of tuning a flat reed. These replacement reeds are easy to install, but the one drawback is that these reeds don't fit all the Hohner harmonicas.

shortest lived harmonica ever

By horacio garcia

from spain

Comments about Hohner RP565 MS Reed Plates - Diatonic:

i couldnt believe it, these plates lasted just 1 week before blowing a reed, the 5 draw. never have i had a harmonica last so little, even when i was learning to play . reedplates usually last at least a couple of months of playing and gigging, and im upset if they only last 2 months, many can last much more. these literally held up for roughly 8 days of easy playing. they didnt sound bad, but i really thought hohner had taken care of these reliability problems.l

Value, Baby!

By Ben-lRrLj

from Kansas

Comments about Hohner RP565 MS Reed Plates - Diatonic:

These reeds are better quality than what comes in the Big River Harps. Bendability and tone is more like the Blues Harps. They seem to last pretty well - I still haven't killed mine!
